Artemis entered the mountain, carrying an unconscious Becca. Megan was flying behind her, feeling as worried as Becca was bruised. Cassie followed, looking perfect.
“What happened?” she asked, feigning innocence as they entered the entertainment section.
“As if you don't know!” Artemis snapped.
“I-I don't.”
“Yes you do! You attacked Becca because you're a-a-a demon!” Megan fired.
“I don't know what you're talking about.”
Cassie put on a hurt face but Artemis put Becca in Megan's gentle care and slapped the phony act off.
“Stop! Just stop! You are being so immature! You're playing games and you're attacking us when the guys aren't around! I saw what happened the other day; you attacked Becca because she challenged you. And you got scared so you screamed. Then placed the blame on her! And you're doing it again because you have a thing for Connor! So STOP!”
Artemis was breathing deeply after her tirade and stared at a glaring Cassie. She stepped closer the the Wonder Girl and spoke in a low, almost demonic voice.
“If you ever lay so much as a finger on Becca, I will cut that hand off, tie you up, and throw you off the nearest cliff! You may be a powered freak but Becca is my friend. And I will protect her to my own death if that's what it takes.”
Both of the girls left, Artemis reclaiming Becca. They entered Megan's room, placing Becca on the bed. Megan sat on the edge, closer to Becca's head. Artemis supported the ebony haired girl and looked at her telepathic friend.
“Can you revive her?”
“I'll try.”
Megan entered Becca's mind. It was a jumble of activity and memories. Scenes flashed before her and it seemed like a busy highway. Sparks of color caught her eye every now and then but Megan remained focused on the task at hand. After several minutes of probing, Megan released her mind link to the other girl.
“I don't know if it worked. But it should at least help her.”
“As long as she's okay.”
“She will be.”
A knock sounded at the door and both girls turned to look as it opened.
“Hey,” Robin greeted.
“Hi.”
“How's Becca?”
“She'll be fine,” Artemis answered, looking back to the girl she was holding.
“What did you find out?”
“Nothing much,” Megan answered. “Just a few flashes of her memories. They were moving pretty fast for me. But I didn't learn anything important.”
“Do you know when she'll wake?”
“Not for a few hours at least. We'll call you when she wakes up, okay?”
Robin nodded and left, closing the door. Megan looked back to Becca.
“I feel horrible,” she admitted.
“Why? What did you do?” Artemis asked.
“I started this. Becca only challenged Cassie because I told her how worried I was. That I would loose Connor. She would never ave been hurt had I opened up.”
“But you might have left if you hadn't. Then Becca would have blamed herself. Don't regret it Meg. Becca's a fighter. She'll push through like she always does. Endurance; it's what she's made of.”
“I know. I just feel so guilty.”
“Don't! You'd do the same if the situation was concerning Robin and Becca.”
“...You're right. I'm just beating myself up.”
“Yes you are. But we have Becca to worry about. We need to take to the infirmary.”
Megan nodded and picked the girl up. They made their way to the hospital wing and put Becca under the X-Ray machine.
“We need to check for broken bones,” Artemis clarified.
“Right. How do we work this?”
“Just type in the code. But cover Becca with that blanket thingy first.”
“I hope she's alright.”
“She'll be fine.”
Both turned at the voice. A girl with brown hair and yellow highlights stood beside their wounded friend.
“Devin!”
The girl smiled, flapping her white wings. She put a hand to Becca's heart and pushed gently. A minute later, Becca opened her eyes and smiled weakly.
“Devin. You dyed your hair.”
“Yeah. It's safer than people knowing I'm the 'adopted' sister of Robin.”
Becca smiled and moved her head.
“I'm tired. May I go to sleep now?”
Devin laughed.
“Of course, Sparrow. Of course.”
“What happened?” she asked, feigning innocence as they entered the entertainment section.
