Hauntings- The Past
SilverWings's PoV
It was hot as Hades. Maybe hotter.
The trio moved through the inferno, avoiding the flames that climbed the walls and dripped from the ceiling. The youngest of them dug her head deeper into her father's shirt. Squeezing her eyes shut, she concentrated in the sound of his beating heart, loud against her ear. Thump, thud. Thump, thud. Its rhythm was interrupted by a shudder as he coughed.
"Straight ahead," he yelled over the roar of the fire. The girl opened her eyes as the heat receded, replaced by the chill of the cool night air. Her father set her down in the dew covered grass.
"Where's mom?" his son asked before breaking into a coughing fit. He stood in the moonlight, his ruffled dark hair, flannel pajamas, and bare feet covered in ash.
"She's still inside," Riley Conners said. He look at his son and daughter, both with terrified looks in their eyes. "I'm going back to get her."
"No," his daughter said. She wrapped her arms around him, her small arms not even circumventing his whole waist. "Please don't leave us, daddy."
Riley kneeled before his only daughter. "I will always be with you. Both your mother and myself," he stood and looked sternly at both his children. "I love you. Now, watch each other." He turned to go, then paused and looked back, "Don't trust anybody." Then he sprinted into the burning house.
"Daddy!" the girl screamed. She ran toward the house, her vision blurred by tears.
"Ary, stop," her brother yelled after her. He reached her just as as the inferno exploded outward, throwing them back-
I shot up in bed, breathing hard. Shivering and soaked in sweat. For a moment, I was confused by my surroundings. By the sleeping girl next to me. Immunity I remembered, My bedroom
Looking around the dark room, I spotted the open window. Soundlessly, careful not to wake my dreaming roommate, I slid out of the comforter, crept to the window, and lowered the pane.
Closing my eyes, I laid my head against the glass, the chilled glass soothing my burning skin.
"Its over. It was only a nightmare" I breathed. Pulling my head up, I gazed out the window at the city lights. "It is only a memory."

Prologue to Chapter Nine- "The Beginning of More Troubles"
"Delta Squad, check in."
"Artemis, in position."
"Beast Boy in position."
"Batgirl, in position."
"Wondergirl, in position."
"Kid Flash wishing he was at the buffet."
"Good. Maintain your positions. The show is about to start. Nightwing out."
"See? This transmission was picked up by security officials at the olympic celebration." G. Gordon Godfrey stepped in front of the image of the celebration in Rio De Janeiro. "Its obvious that this Nightwing was planning something. On top of that, Kid Flash admits that he would rather be eating than watching over some of the richest and most powerful men in the world!" Let's watch what else happened that day. See if you can find a connection with the heroes, and the murder."

"It means," she whispered, centimeters from him, "that I want a real kiss."
"No, no, no, no!" Revenge said, wiping up the blood with his gloves. There was too much
on the floor. Too much had been lost. The sword that had done the damage was laying
over to the side. Revenge tried to pick it up, but his strength had left him. It clattered
to the floor beside him as he sank to his knees, the unbearable pain filling his
body and mind.
