Hey all,
I'm new to Fanpop and don't normally write essays on fictional characters but I was browsing around and have been reading a lot lately about how Elena just needs to suck it up, stop crying/being whiny over killing Connor, just go for it with Damon already and I'd just like to write my own feelings on the matter.
First off, I am a Delena fan. It's actually what got me into the series, which just happened this past summer. I clicked on a song on youtube and it happened to be a Damon/Elena music vid (A Thousand Years by Christina Perri - very fitting I think).
Anyway, I've been reading that Elena just needs to suck it up and move on and get with Damon when she's just been through this major, major change in her life: she's become a vampire, something she never, ever wanted to be. Fans don't seem to understand that something like that, with the attendant new abilities and *hunger*, needs some adjustment time. As for killing Connor, I'd like those people who said they got mad at Elena for whining about it, kill someone in a fit of passion/anger and see how fast they get over it. If they weren't at all remorseful, I'd be worried.
Thirdly, the whole 'just hop on the Damon-train' already thing is immensely annoying. I keep reading about fans who are mad at Elena or hate her for how she's treating Damon, but the fact of the matter is, Elena's only been in two serious relationships in her life and the one ended because she realized she wasn't in love. Another series long struggle Elena's been going through is that she doesn't want to be like Katherine.
My opinion is that if she didn't feel guilt for dancing with Damon at the Murder party or if she all of the sudden did a 160 at the beginning of season 4, she *would* be exactly like Katherine: not taking into consideration the brothers' feelings and just going for what *she* wants. I for one am really into the slow-going the producers have Elena on in season 4 because I just wouldn't like her if she was the type to just dump one for the other (a reason I don't understand those who like Katherine, but that's a whole other ball game I won't get into).
The indecision, the guilt, the love for both boys and the reluctance to give up on a relationship (that we also saw in the season 3 finale with Elena not wanting to give up on Matt despite the fact she wasn't in love with him) just because it's not going the way she thought it should or planned is all a part of Elena and if the writers left all that stuff out, she wouldn't be a recognizable Elena any longer, she'd be Katherine 2.0.
Also, am I the only one who took note that when Elena told Stefan her feelings for Damon had been magnified that it also indicated whatever feelings she had for Stefan HAD NOT been magnified? And how important this seems in the Delena endgame? After all, if Stefan truly was the one or if her feelings for him were stronger than the ones for Damon, wouldn't her feelings for Stefan have gone through such a transformation as well?
Anyway, I hope I laid out all my thoughts coherently because I had some awesome ones to make but they got a bit lost in my mind while trying to figure out how to sign up to this site.

The next morning.
A buzzing sound, coming from Caroline’s pedestal cupboard woke her up and she opened her eyes. She took her phone and opened it. She had received a message from an unknown person.
“I know what you are and we will destroy you” she read aloud. She swung her legs off the bed and searched for her ring. When she had found it she put it on and walked to the window. She shoved the curtain and stared outside.
The sky was grey. It seemed like it was going to rain.
Caroline opened the window and climbed over the edge.
“Game on, bitch” she mumbled, before she jumped and landed gracefully on the pavers.

“Where’s Barbie?” Katherine asked when Stefan was standing on the front porch of the Boarding House. She had gotten used to the sight of him with Rebekah.
“She’s out, doing something” Stefan explained vague. “Can I come in?”
Katherine shrugged and let him pass. Stefan turned around. “I’m looking for Elena. Is she here?”
“No, she’s at school. You should know that” Katherine said uninterested.
“Not anymore she isn’t” Stefan said. “School’s over”
“Then she’s probably at the Grill” Katherine said, a little annoyed. “What do you need her for anyway?”
“I want to apologize for what happened last time she came over” Stefan said. “And I want to make sure she’s okay. I mean, I know Rebekah’s blood already left her system by now, but still, it must have freaked her out”
He looked at Katherine who stared at some point behind Stefan. Stefan quickly turned around and saw Damon standing in the doorway.
