Disney Princess Do you think most people just like Charlotte because she's white and gloss over bad parts of her personality?

I'm asking because I was shocked to see:

link
link
link and more.

That's low even for a white-hating place like tumblr. and the responses are great.

I'm sure the person who voted for "yes she's a brat..." isn't going to show their face, but I'd like to see what they have to say.

Most people I've seen comment about Charlotte focus on her personality, since you can stereotype her as a selfish brat but then you see what she did to Tiana at the end. Also, Charlotte has been a helpful friend to Tiana even before that.

I think most people like her for being funny and being selfless enough to let Tiana marry the prince. I like her for that and I can relate to her (being spoiled and still wishing for her prince). I love both Charlotte and Tiana equally, despite color. They are personally my favorite characters. Charlotte is the comedic friend who I relate to and Tiana is the independent and hardworking woman that I want to become. (Only that I want to be that woman mainly in hopes of getting my prince someday so I still have Lottie's desire).

Omg, I never read that.
She is spoiled yes, but that is her Fathers mistake, but she is selfless and a really good friend of Tia in my opinion. + she has an adorable personality XD

Swanpride picked No, her race has nothing to do with it and her personality is fine:
I think she is popular because
1. She is hilarious...and we tend to like funny characters more (that's why Lumiere has more fans as Cogsworth, even though they are actually a package deal)
2. She speaks to the true Disney Princess Fan....let's face it, we all have a Lottie in us who gets overly excited over fan-stuff, we just tend to reign her in a little bit more instead of slipping into a fantasy world. And while we all know that "wishing upon a star" is more a symbol of hope and doesn't really work in the real word, a small part of us wants to have her faith.
3. She is a character which defeats expectations, and those are always the best. While she is spoiled and I doubt that she even gets what poverty is, she is nevertheless a good person. She is self-centered, but the moment she notices that Tiana needs help, she is immediately there.

What bothers me about the original confession is the emphasis on her being a spoiled WHITE girl...so if she were a spoiled black girl it would be okay to like her?

ugh tumblr is full of of stupid people
People like her because she's hilarous and a good friend, you can think that she's annoying or a spoiled brat but you can't say that people like her because she's white and blonde.

Tumblr; the most ignorant group of people in the world (most of them)

People like her because she is funny, relatable, and a good friend. She could be half-purple and half-pink, and people would still love her. Her being white has NOTHING to do with people liking her. Rasict, prejudiced group of bastards

People love Lottie because of how funny and over the top she is. Also, she is a good friend to Tiana and has a good heart. So even though she is spoiled and materialistic, she isn't really a brat. She's still kind and giving. Also, like some of the others have said, Lottie kind of represents all that we secretly are. She still believes in wishing on stars, she still wants her prince to come and sweep her off her feet and take her to be a princess. Also, in response to that first link, sure she's a popular character (I don't know enough little kids to know if she's more popular than Tiana,) but honestly, which character has more mass appeal?

I think she is spoiled, but not a brat: she gets what she want from her rich daddy, but that doesn't make her a bad person. She doesn't look down on Tiana, she's a bit mean towards the pathetic guy a her party, but we know that's because she wants to meet the prince and no one else. She is self-centered, but she cares for her friends too: she helps Tiana when her attire is ruined, and lents her one of her own. She has faults and virtues, i think she's a very human-y character.

Of course, absolutely no one who thinks her race has something to do with it responded.

Anyway, the comments are interesting, and I never thought about it before but now I do agree she's actually more relatable than I thought! It's also strange how I only ever see the blonde characters get this. Ariel and Belle are white too and also way more popular than any of those ones, so why doesnt anyone ever say this about them?

in my opinion people reward charlotte for being a decent human being. which no one should be rewarded for. she should be nice to tiana regardless of the times/era no excuse for her racism. so in my opinion, people praise charlotte for being a decent person.
Charlotte is nothing special I find her somewhat irritating tbh, if good hearted. I do not understand this obsession over Charlotte.

I like her person- ality but...
UnholyNoise picked I like her personality but think people like that she's white, too:
I really like Charlotte, and it goes beyond her receiving praise for basic decency. I always felt like PATF made a point of showing - through Facilier and Naveen and Lawrence - how easily money, even just the vague possibility of it, corrupts people. So Charlotte being generous and compassionate and relatively unentitled in spite of her upbringing and environment is nothing to shrug off imo.

I also think it's interesting that she's basically Disney commentary on some of the less...helpful....messages they've put in DP movies over the years.

But I don't doubt that some people are willing to cut her more slack because she's white, even if it's not intentional. And there are definite white savior vibes to her character. So, like...I know it's cool to shit on Tumblr but they're not totally off-base with this.

Agree with princesslullaby and Unholy. She's not an unlikable character but it's telling how the white female character has all the traits that the fandom likes (dreaminess, humor) and the black princess is accused of boring and preachy.

^and yet Tia has traits many black fans like too. Weird how you assume everyone who likes those about Lottie must be white too, or that Tiana critics can't be black. Not to mention, who gets the dolls? The spot on the movie cover? The place as "best role model" and the one you're really supposed to identify with?

Also, it's easy to trash tumblr because, well, tumblr can be pretty trash. Harmless users have gotten attacked and deactivated while nazis, pedos, and run of the mill bullies reign free. They see everything as an attack because of X and sometimes it may be. Other times it's just them making every part of their identity about X.
