I love the HCA version, though, very much, it has some magic about it the Disney one doesn't have.

I read the Hans Christian Anderson version when I was around 8 or 9 and I was so sad afterwards. I wanted to watch the Disney version immediately.

I guess the original is touching but it just sucks that the mermaid didn't reach her goal after the hardships she went though. I guess she's rewarded at the end but eh.

I love the HCA version so much,it's epic! The mermaid, with long blonde hair and blue fin, is beautiful <3
I also love Ariel, her red hair is fantastic, but the original story is better IMO.

And the fact that Disney ruined the book... upsets me sometimes....

^i think Disney made the book better, for kids i mean, it's not really a happy ending for the kids to see, when the hero dies.

^There are a lot of movies for kids with sad endings. But it doesn't make such movies worse.

^there are, but not movies when the hero gives up everything to achive her goal, then the one she love marries another one and she dies miserably. an awful ending for DP movie, just saying .. !

^Well, if the ending is not for a Disney movie, then the whole book isn't. Then make some other movie. WHat's the problem?

The book had a moral. And they ruined it all.
IMO of course.

^well TLM is one of the most famous Disney movies ever, and it's very lovable by the public 'not all of them of course', and the movie is so different from the others 'mermaid - the idea' and i just see that it would be a total lost if this movie never happened.
it's a matter of opinion after all.

Oh so for you to like Ariel and the movie she has to die? That makes perfect logic! With disney the message is that you should never give up on your dreams and do whatever it takes to make it come true. When Anderson's version it's you work hard you die and all your work is for nothing -_-. Besides unlike Marina, Ariel actually wanted to become human WAY before she saw her prince. So Marina is love sick plus not a good judge of character. Ariel actually knew more about Eric before she became human. She saw how fun-loving he is playing with Max and playing music. She knew he's not spoiled, selfish, or vain when she see's his reaction from his statue. She also knew how selfless and brave he is when he went to save Max from the ship knowing he might be killed in the process. Marina only knew that her prince what's his face was handsome that's it.

are you stupid? can't you read? i said i wish she was like marina in PERSONALITY, this has nothing to do with the fact that she dies in the original fairytale. -___-
and no, that's not the message from andersen's version. If you sacrifice, you will be rewarded. Even though she did not get everything she wanted, the mermaid still would eventually obtain a soul, because she refused to kill the prince for her own gain. She could have gone back to the sea with her sisters and avenged herself on the man she saved, but due to her compassion, she would not harm the prince to save herself

Last time I checked her personality is like Ariel's since they're both based on the same person the only difference is Marina is more of a love sick puppy than Ariel, also I'm not stupid and I can read :P

^Why are you 2 always arguing? It's called a person's opinion. Some like Andersen's original story, some like the Disney's happily ever after. I personally like this one better, but it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with me.
