Chapter 5- Runaway of the Lovers
Lady was distraught as she sat with Tramp on her front steps. Once again, the loss of her son hurt her dearly, and so did the loss of his girlfriend. After alerting Jim Dear and Darling hurriedly with barks, the two of them were shocked to see the absence of their rebellious puppies.
“Oh, Jim Dear, Scamp and Angel are gone!” Darling declared with a still serene, but sad voice.
“I cannot believe what’s happening to us,” Jim Dear stated sadly.
“Nor can I,” Lady told Tramp as Jim Dear and Darling went inside. “Why couldn’t you come clean of your past to our children?”
Tramp stated uncomfortably, “Well, uh… uh… well, you know. The past is past, and it’s not our concern anymore!”
Lady looked suspiciously at Tramp, who clearly looked guilty. “If you just told Angel about Peg…”
“Yeah…but Pidge, I didn’t know that Angel was one of Peg’s,” Tramp stated.
“But you should have come clean to her about your past,” Lady stated firmly, and in a slightly sad voice, she added, “I see you haven’t changed.”
Tramp stated, “Oh, come on Pidge. They’re just kids… they wouldn’t understand this stuff yet.”
The two of them sat on the steps sadly. Lady had no idea on what she should do next, other than to wait for Jim Dear and Darling to act, but Tramp had an idea. He proclaimed, “Pidge, I’m going to go out and find them.”
Lady looked at Tramp, still concerned, but now with a clear look of suspicion in her face. “You just want to get out,” she stated softly. “How do I know that you won’t run off too?”
“Well, Pidge, you can come along with me if you’re concerned,” Tramp told Lady. “You can make sure that none of my girlfriends come to see me, and make sure I don’t leave, you know, keep my behavior in check.”
“But… Jim Dear and Darling will be concerned,” Lady stated worriedly. “Last time that I left it was different… When I ran away last time, Aunt Sarah was there. I never ran out on Jim Dear and Darling. And not only them, but our daughters! What would they do without us?”
Tramp stated, “Come on Pidge, we have to save Scamp and Angel! They could get into trouble, and they could’ve been sent to the pound already!”
“Well, I suppose they are troublemakers,” Lady quietly told Tramp. “And I would hate to see them in the pound.”
But at that moment, Jock and Trusty, Lady’s neighbors, crossed the street. Lady got an idea. “Jock? Trusty? Can you please come over?”
The two of them came over at once, looking quite curious but concerned at the same time. “What is it, Lassie?” Jock asked her.
“Anything we can do for you, Miss Lady?” Trusty asked.
“Yes,” Lady told Jock and Trusty. “Tramp and I are going out.”
Jock looked suspiciously at Tramp, and gave him a slight grimace. “Why?” Trusty asked, simply.
“If this is any one of his follies, lassie,” Jock stated suspiciously to Tramp, with a slight grimace.
“Don’t worry about that,” Lady told Jock fervently. “We’re not running away for fun,” Lady added, Tramp decided to walk backward a bit. “Two of our puppies ran away,” Lady told Jock and Trusty.
“Ah, I said there was a wee little bit of the father in them,” Jock stated sadly. Tramp looked almost quite proud.
“So do you suppose you can check on the rest of our children?” Lady asked.
“As you wish, Miss Lady,” Trusty stated. Lady gave him a thankful smile and nod.
Tramp looked as though Christmas was about to come early. He asked, “Ready, pidge?”
“Just a moment,” Lady responded. “I have to go talk to our children about this.”
Lady hurried into the house, and gently made their way through to the kitchen in the front, where her daughters were proudly sitting on the kitchen floor, smelling like they’ve just taken a bath.
“Mom!” Annette told Lady proudly, “We’re looking really good, aren’t we?”
“I look better,” Collette told Annette. “I’m the prettiest.”
“No, that’s me!” Annette snapped.
“We all look better than that silly Scamp,” Danielle added.
“Girls, be quiet,” Lady told the others. Seriously she sadly stated, “Scamp and Angel ran away.”
The girls guffawed with laughs. “Oh, those two! They’re such delinquents!” Annette stated impatiently. “Will they ever behave?”
“It’s for a different reason than you might think,” Lady stated sadly. “It’s kind of complicated, but it’s about Tramp and my past relationship.”
“You’re so naïve!” Collette stated impatiently. “Those two are just rabid rebels who hate you both. All those two selfish spoiled brats care about is trouble.”
Lady gasped with these words, and was hurt with them. But she continued, “Tramp and I are going to find them and bring them back home. Jock and Trusty are going to keep an eye on you while we’re gone.”
“But aren’t you going to take us to the show?” Collette asked in horror.
Lady didn’t answer right away. She then stated, “Once we find them,” as her daughters looked at her with horror. “We’ll find the others. Goodbye.”
“Bye Mom,” Annette, Collette, and Danielle stated, before they started to fight among themselves playfully in the kitchen, as Collette once again declared she was the prettiest of the puppies.
With her head held low as she stared at the floor, Lady proceeded out of the kitchen and through the front doors. She saw Jim Dear and Darling cuddling Junior and talking about their runaway puppies, but she couldn’t bear to look at them; she felt really guilty about leaving them. Lady went to find Tramp, who was still waiting. “All right, I’ll go…but this is for our kids, remember.”
A broad grin crossed Tramp’s face, he never had so much excitement since his days as a street dog.
The two lovers began to cross Park Avenue’s street, and Lady asked Tramp worriedly, “Are you sure we’re doing the right thing?”
Confidently, Tramp nodded, saying, “Oh, of course! Come on, Pidge,” Tramp stated, full of energy. “Let’s head into town.”

“Well, Pidge, you can come along with me if you’re concerned,” Tramp told Lady. “You can make sure that none of my girlfriends come to see me, and make sure I don’t leave, you know, keep my behavior in check.”

Tramp looked as though Christmas was about to come early. He asked, “Ready, pidge?”

“Mom!” Annette told Lady proudly, “We’re looking really good, aren’t we?”

“It’s for a different reason than you might think,” Lady stated sadly. “It’s kind of complicated, but it’s about Tramp and my past relationship.”
