Porn!

...OMG PORN! No, just kidding. I wanted you to click this article.

We all know (or at least I hope we know) that fanpop is a porn-free, happy, rainbow-colored PG-13 land. (whether you like it or not is not the topic of discussion here - we shall accept it as it is)
What's great is that we can still manage to have a sex spot and a breast spot which are clean. No pictures of nipples, no porn gifs, no hardcore anal porn videos.
Good.

Now what's the bad part?
I've seen it rather often lately that some user just mentioned words like "porn" or "nudity" and a very angry mob of users was ready to drown the unlucky one in the holy waters of Mount Doom.

case1)
A user asked a question on the sex spot. It said something about whether or not it is animal abuse if you let your dog perform oral on you.
Nowhere did the user hint that they were a supporter of animal abuse nor did they add pictures of...said thingy...in the pick.
Still, the angry mob went to that user's profile and told them how sick they were for doing such things, speaking about such things,... as if that user just invented it.
Even if you think this pick was not appropriate, just click the lovely report button. Don't jump at conclusions. It's okay. Breathe.

case2)
If you know me you know I like a hot icon every once in a while. I keep them appropriate. One day I see this on my wall:
@_@
@_@

Mhm. Girls in bikinis and lingerie. I really crossed a line.

case3)
I talked to another user today :) She was quite upset, because she also asked a pretty harmless question about something sex/porn related and well...people immediately jumped to hardcore porn, insults, holy water and Mount Doom.

Please remember - even if someone uses such bad words as porn, sex, breasts,...read what they have to say. Not everyone is a perv who wants to turn fanpop into analpop. I'm not saying change your opinions or embrace porn if it's not your thing. But please be considerate.
There are so many different users and some come from countries that might be more "open-minded", some users are older, that's a big factor too.
I hope you understand that I'm not trying to say "Spread the porn!" when fanpop is clearly against porn, but I'm asking you to understand that not everyone who says "Porn!" is immediately an evil perv.

So go forth and spread the porn
JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING.

I agree with you. Heck, I'm friends with a few people on here who sometimes says what I consider "bad words", and I don't slap a bad person label on them.

According to my beliefs, you are supposed to love everyone, even if they do do bad things. Love the sinner, hate the sin. ;)
(to avoid anyone sounding like a hyopcrite and dissing my beliefs, don't say anything. :3)

As a prude... er, proud American citizen, I feel it is my duty to inform you that yes, if you say the "P" word, you ARE immediately an evil perv. Now change your icon, you sick man! =D

But... ass is profanity... Were you joking? Am I missing something, or did you just say that ass and profanity were bad?

I do agree with you, Angel. Although, what you have to keep in mind is that there are children on this website, and even though people overreact, just try and keep your icons appropriate. But you made very good points. I agree. :)

Not trying to pile on to "Mount Doom" or whatever, but the person that mentioned the porn was asking a QUESTION. We simply answered in the appropriate fashion. Porn isn't something users on here should see. End of story. We didn't lash out, or anything. Actually, the person that asked the question spazzed. So yeah. I do agree with you on the note that we shouldn't be that sensitive, though, Angel. Everyone has different views. Good points :)

oh emilyroxx, dearest, i was refering to a user who has the username somethingsomethingASS and thinks that profanities should be censored!

and for the record: "CHILDREN" will not be harmed by seeing nipples!
"children" will not be harmed by nudity! it's the adults who make such a big deal and have a context that will make nudity awkward or something bad/harmful/inappropriate. nudity per se is not offensive...sexual context may be- depending on what it is. but heck...no one will see reason on the matter anyway!

@germany123: Whether you want it or not nudity is sexuality and sexuality isn't something children want to see. If they do want, however, they can go to adults sites. I'm happy fanpop isn't pro porn site and I hope it will remain this way.

PS. Really? Some people can't live without porn on a web site? There are so many adult sites, why to cram it here? Is it so difficult to live without porn? Geez!

Fanpop has to appeal to a vast audience. If you're coming here, there's certain things you're here for, and you'll use spots differently to some users.

For example, I've noted a lot of RP Group spots cropping up since I've been gone, and that's great and another creative outlet for people. Also, another user may not be going to the Fanpop spot for the same reasons I am, they may not enjoy the Quiz or Picks etc.

However, hardcore pornography has it's place on the internet and it isn't here.

Softcore stuff (women in bikinis etc.) is a part of life, and you can shield your children as much as you like, but it won't stop them seeing it at some point. At some point they'll glance at a "Nuts" or "Zoo" magazine, stocked in every shop and ask questions, which then a parent must answer, and it's great that children are free to ask these questions and so on.

The Pick mentioned can be reported and dealt with swiftly, I'm sure, and I've seen (not really similar to this) situations on Fanpop get way out of hand before and that's not really a thing any of us want.

Sorry about this next bit, but I guess most folk shan't read all my burbling.

tl;dr

Fanpop for all. Bikinis okay. Hardcore porn not on Fanpop. Calm down and carry on.

For the most part, I agree with this article, but in response to your cases, in the case of the porn question, if this is in fact the question you're referring to, then I'd just like to say that I wasn't trying to be rude. I did express my personal views on porn, but I wasn't trying to imply in any way that everyone else should share those views.

@germany123-Yes, I made my username on an impulse. I have actually been considering changing it.

This is a quote from the movie, The People Vs. Larry Flynt, his lawyer says this at a trial, "I'm not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does. I don't like what Larry Flynt does. But, what I do like is that I live in a country where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine and read it if I want to, or throw it in the garbage can if that's where I think it belongs. Or, better yet, I can exercise my opinion and not buy it. I like that I have that right. I care about it. And, you should care about it too. For the very freedoms we are supposed to enjoy are very much at stake here. If we start throwing up walls around this, then where does it end. Sooner than later, walls will be thrown up around everything, and we won't be able to speak of, feel, or enjoy anything deemed 'offensive' by someone else. And that is not freedom! Unpopular speech is absolutelly vital to the health of our nation." and I'd like to add that sex is not disgusting, nudity is not disgusting. Is some porn disgusting, absolutely it is, but one mans trash is another mans treasure, and who are you to decide for everyone else??? Those of you who just want it gone, and won't listen to the logic in anyones rebuttles. Not all porn is disgusting, and fanpop should have it's own rules, and regulations, but the very creators of fanpop themselves don't understand Americans hang ups with sex...violence is much more accepted, but sex is considered dirty, wth is that???? People are reverting back to the age of the puritans when it comes to this subject, and that is truly scary. If you don't like something, just don't look at it, but do realize it is ok for those who do like it to not only like it, but be able to have it. All one does is have to say the word 'porn' (gasp!) and ppl just freak the hell out, without even listening to any explanation, and in fact going off on tangeants that have absolutely nothing to do with the quesion that was asked, or the content of the articles, and so forth. Look, listen, and open your mind. Fanpop will not become a porn site, and I am fine with that. But, ya' know what, children shouldn't be on here anyways!!! Maybe if parents monitored their kids internet activities, and banned certain sites, they wouldn't have to worry. Or, if they didn't count on tv, and computers to babysit their kids, and would take their kids outside, or read them a fricken book! Childrem are just used on this subject as a disguise for censorship!
