Well, I started using fanpop back in May 2007, and since then I see how the community keeps increasing in numbers which is great. I haven't been the most active user for a while now, but as I said somewhere else, I've always loved the site and therefore I come back every once in a while to spend some time fanpopping.

There is something I've noticed lately, that is obviously hard to control as the amount of users grows, but I thought I would point it out. What I noticed is a serious misunderstanding of the idea behind the "props" feature.

~ Let's start with the basics, according to the Online Slang dictionary, props are:
- Praise, Compliments...

I understand that all of you probably know this definition, but I see that some appear to have forgotten. The idea behind props is to praise someone for the content added. It's to give out a compliment for the contribution made by the user.

I have seen, sadly, several users give ENTIRE PAGES of props with the only purpose of attacking the other user, calling him/her names, bullying, insulting, etc. As I say this I'm actually scared someone will take this the wrong way and respond badly, which I honestly hope doesn't happen, because that's not the purpose of this.

I'm not going to judge anyone based on their "prop activity" because that would be ridiculous, and also I'm not familiar with the story-behind people's props or fights. However I don't think Fanpop is a place for verbally abusing anyone, and still, even when you ignore this "detail", the purpose of props is not that.

Going back to Fanpop's faq, the answer to what are props? is the following:
"Fan props are a way for fans to publicly express their appreciation for other fans and their contributions on the site."

As I said, I think props are given to someone else as a praise or compliment for that users' contribution on this site. Giving out entire pages of props with the same message that is just verbally insulting the user, I think not only goes against the purpose of the prop feature, but also against the purpose of Fanpop.

Hope nobody takes this the wrong way, just thought maybe after a few things I saw, a reminder of how props are meant to be used shouldn't be bad.
Also, although insulting (I think) is never ok, to resolve a personal issue, it is also possible to use the private message system.

♥♥I think the way your profile is set up is somewhat important, if you have a neat an interesting profile more people may want to fan you. So profile's are important.! Here is my other proposal for fanpop.com.
What do you think about it?

You can go to a users profile and check their activity there. But i don't believe it's just me who think it's overbearing to go to activity and then rate or whatever you'll do.
I think it would be a "search-fan-pane" at every spot where you can search for a fan and see everything that the fan has post at the spot your on.
Like this:
1. Go to a spot
2. Search for the user you want to
3. Then you can pick between icons, photos, fanart, videos, articles ect. (It's like when you "Searh Fanpop")
4. when you press at the category you wanna...

I found a list of science fiction fan words that I thought some of you guys out there in the Fanpop domain would enjoy (I've tried to define them in relation to Fanpop):

Actifan : A fan who's active in fandom (by Writing soapbox articles, starting forums etc.)

BNF : a Big Name Fan

Croggle : To shock or Astound (If someone croggles you, you are croggled or becroggled)

Egoboo : An ego boost (the sort caused by finding your article featured or someone new being a fan of you)

Egoscan : To skim through an article (publication) looking for your name mentioned (like googling yourself)

Faan : A Fan who's...

Um, ok so maybe these features aren't THAT secret...
There are a lot of features on Fanpop. Some are well known and others are less well known (there are also a ton of others we *want* to do, but that's for another conversation). Today I thought I would highlight a few of the less-well-known features for you.

Why? Because, dammit, we spent time on these features! Sure picks and images might be sexier, but these are the runts of the proverbial Fanpop-litter and they need some time in the spotlight too.

(side note: if you already know about these, then consider yourself a very knowledgeable Fanpopper. But if you don't...well, here's hoping you...
