A Happy Life: Chapter 6
[A week later as the sun rises over PPTH Cuddy is sleeping in a chair beside Rachel's crib. House walks into the room with 2 cups of coffee in his hands.He stands at then end of the crib watching Cuddy and Rachel. Rachel opens her eyes and looks at him. The corners of her mouth curl up into a smile.]
House: Kid don’t look at me with your mommy's smile. That will get you anything. I just can't let mommy know that.
[He thinks back to the hallucination he had of Cuddy and how she helped him, she loved him. How she chose him to help him before going home to her happy life. His delusion of her saving him was so real. He thinks of the times Cuddy came to visit him in Mayfield.
He remembers when he told of her of his delusion of her saving him. House remembered Cuddy's tears on her cheeks as he told her. He remembers their second kiss. They had gotten in the car and were headed home from Mayfield. House remembers how after Cuddy took him from Mayfield she let him stay with her for a few days. House was so glad not to be alone.
House had a feeling he hadn't had since Stacy. House knew he loved Cuddy he just had trouble expressing it to her. He knew that he cared about Rachel but..Wait was he caring.
The smell of coffee wafs under Cuddy's nose. Cuddy begins to stir. Cuddy opens her eyes and see House standing at the end of the crib]
Cuddy: mm. What time is it House?
House: Its 6:10am Cuddy. Did you get any sleep last night.
Cuddy: I was feeling nauseous all night. Past couple days I've had a stomach ache.
[House sits down beside Cuddy. Cuddy smiles at him. House smiles at her and Cuddy leans over and kisses him softly on the lips.]
House: Here's some coffee. You need to start taking better care of yourself. You will be no good to the kid if you are sick.
Cuddy: She looks so peaceful. She is moving around much better.
House: Cuddy you’re a good mother.
Cuddy: Thanks. House you are a.. I mean you would make a good father.
[House thinks to himself. Is that what a happy life feels like? A life with a person that can stand to be around him. It wasn't exactly like his delusion but Cuddy saved him eventually. House smiles and leans over and kisses Cuddy on the lips and then looks into her eyes.]
House: I love you Cuddy.
Cuddy: I love you to House. I think I'm gonna be sick..
[Cuddy gets up and runs to the bathroom]
