Legitimate Reasons for Hating the Lucas Arc

I understand there is frustration directed at the Huddy fandom but we DO have legitimate reasons for not liking the Lucas arc and therefore some of us have been fairly vocal about it.
I don’t bash other ships but I will question the current storyline and the writers if I feel it warrants it.

I also want to say that I’m only writing about my personal experience and opinions and don’t speak for other Huddy fans but I believe some feel similarly.
I do spend the majority of my time on the Huli spot because I felt it was safer to be a Huddy there when the Huddy spot was being bashed by Hamerons so perhaps my view of the fandom is skewed.

I am disappointed for Huddy this season and wish the writers had gotten to Huddy through different means.
I just plain do not like Lucas and this was starting season 5. The woman whom he followed on the street said that he made her “uncomfortable.” Lucas himself knew he could be creepy when he complimented Cuddy’s shoes. “It’s less creepy if I compliment her shoes.” “Less creepy, more gay,” is House’s response. Cuddy herself called him creepy when she found him in her office. At this point, I thought he was mildly amusing but he was totally creepy.

The next point I admit is open to some interpretation but I believe he manipulated Cuddy into thinking that cheerleading photo of House was fake.
He already knew that picture was a real picture of House when he met with her at the pizza parlor. And he said that her not being suspicious of the photo meant either she was not smart enough to be suspicious and therefore less hot to him or that she knew that it was a doctored photo of House and therefore more hot to him. Of course, Cuddy at this point would have said she knew the photo was fake.
In Lucas’ mind the race was already on and he was preventing Cuddy from seeing House in a different light with the cheeleading. He’s in competition with House, why wouldn’t he give himself every advantage?

Season 6 has not changed my opinion of him. He’s still creepy in my eyes, even more so. The restaurant scene where Lucas went on and on about House’s hallucination was just twisting the knife in. He was rubbing it in House’s face that he got the girl and that the woman House loved spilled all his secrets to him. The kicker was the offer to buy him a ginger ale when it was a ginger drink that hallucination!Cuddy offered House.
The scene with Lucas and Chase in the doctor’s lounge indicated that he knew about Dibala and he was vaguely threatening about it. Plus, I’m not sure Cuddy would have appreciated that Lucas was reading all kinds of patient files. Definitely not HIPA compliant. XD And again, creepy.

Cuddy this season has turned totally cold and seemingly heartless. She’s always been shown as a hard nosed administrator who made the tough and sometimes unpopular decisions but she was also shown to have a soft, human side. For example, in "Euphoria" she refused to let them do the autopsy even though it might have saved Foreman's life but then cried about it when she was alone. The mix is what made Cuddy Cuddy.
I understand she may be trying to distance herself from House’s brand of insanity by being so cold right now but it’s still not appealing. I want the more human Cuddy back.

And I’m one of those Huddies who WANT them together. I’d love to see House in a real relationship. I think it would add another dimension to his character. House and Cuddy are two complex characters with complicated issues. Why would making them a couple negate that?? And really, people with issues find each other every day and have relationships because they WORK on it.
People seem to think that it will be boring once they get together. Only in fairy tales do the characters live happily ever after and we know that this show is anything but a fairy tale.

I don’t like the current storyline because I dislike Lucas and I dislike the changes to Cuddy. I think the writers are better than giving us a cliched love triangle with Lucas.
I think the writers are up to writing a realistic and complex relationship between House and Cuddy, issues and all.
It's time to get them together.

Beatrix8520 Don't know Laduluck...It's not like I dont' share your feelings on Lucas...he is quite creepy and he is not nice at all....starting get on my nerves during last season already. Believe me I don't feel the slightest simpathy for him....but STILL he is the man Cuddy chose to stay with right now. I tend to see it as in real life, sorry...It could happen we stay with somebody who's actually wrong for us, maybe even stupid and definitely doen't worth it but that's how life goes. There are bad periods of our life in which we undergo changes sometimes....we are more lifeless, maybe quite depressed, we have run out of hope so we feel unbable to be our old selves. I dont' get it. Why House can be a jerk if we know he is capable of being better than that but he still occasionally can go away with it and Cuddy could not have just a short period of selfishness? Isn't it fair? If you had a friend who had been in loved with the same jerekd guy for years wouldn't you advise her to move on? turn the page? avoid the risk? wouldn't you like to see her happy or at least less miserable? would you like her to run the risk at expense of watching her being heart broken again? would you honestly be comfortable on suggesting her that and taking the responsability on you ? I don't think I would, and that's the same here....why wilson himself has been so quiet... Lucas is totally wrong for her we all know that, and we all know this is not our Cuddy but still that's the twist their story reallistically should take right now. You are right: screwed up people end up together everyday. But this is fiction. The shortest path the worse for the show....I am not saying the soap style is good but dont' find it anywhere right now. Where's the soap here? They hand't beeing making them sleep around with everyone yet...the day House will sleep with Thirteen I will agree with you, right now it just sounds biased to me, sorry :( They can't build a relationship based on House still jerking her around 'cause he is unable to voice his feelings to Cuddy without being drunk and on Cuddy still unable to trust him and adressing her true feelings. Issues don't go away so fast and they still have some. Just because we can't enjoy a show without a romance in it ( me too I swear to you I am addicted to this stuff XD ) doens't mean they are making the wrong call....fans can be blind sometimes. House started on different basis: they adressed their relationship since day one that's true, but we had never being tired of waiting since last season finale....I believe that really pissed us off more than we want to admit. But still House is much more than a romance...it'a genius TV-show with so much to enjoy in it...let's try not to forget that. Huddy is part of it, but it's not its core. When the time comes they'll be together but we can't rightfully criticize without watching the whole season. Let's wait and see. Maybe it will surprise all of us for the best :) Obviously I truly respect your personal opinion anyway, never think I am attacking you or something.....just sharing my point of view :D. I actually share your feelings but disagree on your opinions if that makes sense to you ;)

Ladyluck523 @Beatrix - I can see House and Cuddy not getting together immediately. He has to make up for some things he said and did to Cuddy. But he IS trying now. Cuddy was so gung ho about having a relationship last season when he was a jerk and now that he is trying she isn't willing to give him the time of day? It's not consistent. When he told Lucas he loved Cuddy he was NOT drunk although I do admit it was a game to him at that point but she played right back. But as I've said, they both have issues. We agree Cuddy is with the wrong person. If I see a friend with the wrong person, I cringe, hope it ends soon and perhaps try to open her eyes about how wrong he is. That's what I'm trying to do here. You're right, the story is not done yet but I do know quite a few fans are not happy with the show right now and have been...over-enthusiastic...about voicing their displeasure. I just wanted some calm, sane debate on the current storyline. I don't feel you're attacking me. I'm glad we can both agree to disagree :)

misanthrope86 Well, you read my article, so you already know that I don't agree. Especially about Cuddy. Like I said, I think we are just seeing a different side of her that we have not been able to see before. I don't think she has changed at all. But again that is just my observation based on Huddy fans reactions to her. To clarify, for many Huddy fans, the best part of their relationship is the sexual tension between them. This informs all of their encounters. If the writers put them together, they lose that sexual tension. And it will be lost because the House/Cuddy thing is based on the fact that they could/should be together and the tension that is created by them teasing each other. That is the significant part of the relationship that would be lost if they got together permanently. I'm not saying that their relationship would then suck or be boring. I'm simply saying that a crucial element of the show will be gone or at the very least minimised.

Ladyluck523 @misanthrope - No, she has changed from my observation and in my discussion with others. My nephew, who I didn't know was a fan and is definitely not a shipper, said to me when we discussed House this Thanksgiving dinner that she's become a bitch. And my hubby agreed even though he's a casual viewer (he sometimes watches with me), saying that she's been bitchy before but was never an outright bitch (this past eps, "Teamwork" sealed the deal for them). As for the sexual tension, it's been killed right now. For me, the sexual banter has been one of the fun parts of the show. I don't see why that would be killed off when they become a couple. Both can always make risque remarks. Since I'm on the Huli fanspot, I see a lot of interviews of these 2 and I have to tell you there is even more chemistry off-screen than on-screen. They have sexual tension even when they don't try. I think the writers should try to capitalize on that.

janice_22 And don't forget this: I'm not really a 'Hudd Shipper' and I hate Lucas' character. And I'm not alone to think like that. Open your eyes Lucas is really a bad actor and not natural at all. Look at him with Rachel HAAAAAH. In 'Teamwork' his answer: 'I'm dating Cuddy because she was so desperate so I'm desperate too'. Waouuuh is it really a way for a lover ?! I don't think. He's just immature that's all. I'm not a shipper I can't stand him and I'm not alone :((( He gives money to have more screen time lol ?! He slept with K Jacobs ?! D Shore ?! OMG I stop to watch the show it's just a complete stupid melodrama; I'm really dissapointed sorry and don't change my mind. The writers don't want a Huddy relationship OK but this arc is just a crap :s Yaitanes a producer playing on 'Twitter' like a teenager isn't serious; cherry on the cake. Beatrix8520 I am with Misanthrope on this...sorry :) I am quite satisfied with the show right now...of course anyone have their favorite seasons...I loved season 5 for so many reasons and they are not all related to Huddy. I just feel ok with this one. I don't think Cuddy really changed, she is just experiencing something new right now....and Lucas well he is not good but he is not bad for her either so I guess right now she is choosing the least bad of the two of man ( in her mind ). I like we can calmly agree to disagree. I guess on this matter the spot is splitted up. Noone will agree will noone :D Nice thread anyway, always nice to hear out other people's opinions. ;)

jtara Just wanted to say I agree with LadyLuck 100%. It has little to do with what is written, but instead HOW its written. I cannot imagine this intelligent, indepedant woman, who graduated 2nd in her class pissed off, would ever in a million years date Lucas, someone who probably does not possess a high school diploma. He follows people for a living, nothing more, and Cuddy herself used the word "creepy" to describe him. Anyone who is a single mother and dates someone who they admit is creepy, needs their head examined. You cannot have Cuddy date him, unless you bring her down to his level, which they have done. You NEVER sacrifice an anchor character, for someone like Lucas who is a guest star. They have her boyfriend digging up dirt on people in her own hospital...someone tell me again how this guy is better then House? Lucas has only been on the show a few episodes, and he is already behind Cuddys back making her look stupid. If she wanted a nanny, she should've called Tony Danza. Instead, they have turned Cuddy, a woman who once had a fondness for House, into a cold hearted bitch. I agree with the comments about GY playing on twitter like a teenager. The show looks unprofessional in so many ways this year, its not even funny. I am tired of people complaining about others complaining. People who are not happy with this arc have just as much right to watch this show as every one else, and if the comments bother you, don't read them. No one is forcing anyone to change their opinion, just allow people to have them. Is that really hard?

Do you really think if House has sex with her, he will stop lusting after her, making comments about her boobs and ass? If you do, then you dont really believe these 2 people have deeper emotions about eachother. They had sex 20 years ago, and it didnt go away then either, the show has gone out of its way to prove that. The chemistry DOES go away, however, when you have Cuddy boinking someone else though! That scene with Huddy in the lobby, the sexual tension was G-O-N-E! Its because they write Cuddy like she doesn't care and House has stopped teasing her. House and Cuddy are crazy about eachother and screwed up in so many ways, I am dying to see them attempt a what they think is a normal relationship, because if written true to their relationship and banter with eachother, it will be very very entertaining. I think if they become intimate, the sexual tension if anything, would intensify. True to character Houses comment would become raunchier after sex with Cuddy, they wouldn't stop. And Cuddy would do what she always does, she pretends like it bothers her and she loves every minute of it.

misanthrope86 ^ Well, not an old wives tale from my perspective. I think people are either not listening or not listening [i]properly[/i]. If you read my WHOLE comment you will see that I say that that sexual tension will be converted into something else or minimised. The relationship that they have will change. Huddy fans seem to be certain that it will change for the better. There is little acknowledgement that it could be a disaster. YET when it comes to anything that stands in Huddy's way, it is terrible and awful and the worst storyline ever. Huddy fans, in general, are very uncritical of the direction of the Huddy realtionship. And not to offend you, but calling Cuddy a "bitch" is a perfect example of that, for the reasons that I said in my own article. This is a good demonstraion of how we all interpret the show differently. For example, I don't think Lucas is even REOMTELY creepy. Not even a little bit. I think he is perfect for a long-term, fun and caring relationship with Cuddy. Yet you guys hate him. And that is fine if that is what you guys want to think. But tranferring some of that hatred onto Cuddy is, in my view, bizarre. I think what pisses me off the most about this whole situation is that it says a lot about women in society, and this is a good demonstration of how women are more often than not seen as the bad guy in these situations. It really disgusts me that that happens and it disgusts me that House MD fans are creating that construction of women. So we will all have to agree to disagree. All I ask is that next time you want to call Cuddy a "bitch" or a "whore", you think about it a little. And if you still genuinely want to talk about her in that way, then fine. Just note that there will be less and less of us around for you to talk about her with.

Ladyluck523 @misanthrope - I haven't called Cuddy a bitch or whore (my nephew and hubby called her a bitch during our T-day discussion.) I said she was shown as cold and heartless. I'm disappointed she's being shown in such a light when part of her previous appeal had been her empathy. Putting House and Cuddy together COULD be a disaster but seeing the effortless chemistry HL and LE have together makes me believe that as long as a reasonable relationship storyline is written we will have sexual tension in spades. Again, this is where the fandom splits and "never the twain shall meet" and we will have to agree to disagree. I'm just trying to point out that not all Huddy responses are knee-jerk reactions to something remotely anti-Huddy. There ARE legitimate reasons I dislike the current arc.

Belle0308 I understand why people don't like the Lucas arc. I understand people being irritated and angry and so on. My biggest problems are this. I don't think that it is what I would call adult behavior to sent "hate mail" to producers and directors of tv shows because you don't agree with their work. I could maybe understand disagreeing, but I do happen to think that some of it is really out of line and it concerns me. My next issue is that I am not really getting why so many think that Cuddy is a "bitch". Over the years I have watched one of my favorite characters ever lie on a witness stand, provide an employee with drugs, be interrupted on a date, be second guessed chronically and objectified over and over. In some ways, she is the nightmare of what you would want for your daughter/sister...to be in love with someone that often times abuses her. YET, she strikes back and doesn't take his crap but on occassion, I think he really hurts her. Please note that while I am saying this, I am pretty much in love with the "jerk" as much as she is. I feel like I have a vested interest in their relationship working out, but I don't like seeing her up in the air and hanging by a thread so much either. If it is "bitchy" to not want to put up with the same old crap all the time, then I guess I am just as bitchy as Cuddy is. Yes, everyone had their opinion, but I think there is a lot we don't see and maybe this "Cuddy" episode will change that. Can you imagine how many complaints she gets on House in even a month? Personally, I am trying to have faith in the writers that they will write Lucas out and either he turns out to be a big creepy mistake or he is just a plain bad move. One way or another, I don't think he will be around next season. I personally hated the Stacey arch. I didn't like her and don't like her and couldn't wait for her to be off the show, but I had faith that eventually she would be off so I held on. As far as the whole should they or should they not be together controversy. I would LOVE them to get together and even this season. I think that the writers are just that dang good that they could make it interesting. Examples of couples that worked together and were interesting...ever seen "The Thin Man" series? Great Husband and Wife detective movies...they were MARRIED and *shock*..still interesting and had great chemistry. Hart to Hart...anyone else remember Jonathan and Jennifer Hart? They were a married couple and they lasted 5 whole seasons and they were interesting and fun. I know this isnt' the same...but I think the danger in not getting them together is that fans will get cranky, feel that it will never happen and abandon the show. At the same time, there is the argument that if they get together we won't watch anymore either. Storyline ideas for a Happy Huddy household... How do they tell the staff or do they? Wilson fits in how? What happens when she has to make a decision against his opinion? How does he learn to relate to her and Rachel at the same time when NOT at work? There are a lot of angles it could go and I agree with those who say it could be done. YET...again I am not a writer and can only say what I think and hold on for the ride. Everyone has a different idea of what should happen, what shouldn't happen, what is a bad idea, good idea and so on.

misanthrope86 Well we certainly aren't going to agree on this because I have yet to hear a legitimate reason for hating Lucas/Luddy. LIKE I HAVE SAID A BILLION TIMES NOW, critique of the show is great, but it is the WAY IN WHICH HUDDY FANS ARE CRITIQUING THIS STORY LINE THAT IS PISSING PEOPLE OFF. So we clearly are not understanding each other, and quite frankly I cannot be fucked trying to explain my perspective anymore. Good luck to you all.

And don't forget I'm not a 'Huddy Shipper' and I don't like the Lucas arc - hum well Lucas himself - I used to enjoy House/Cuddy chemistry and nothing else. I'm not unpleased with Lydia, Sela Ward but this relationship isn't natural; just take a look at Cuddy's face it speaks more than thousand words :-// For me he's a bad actor, not natural at all (just look at the scene with Rachel pouaaah). And so much little details. In fact it seems you're pleased with all the ships in the show so maybe the writers can put Foreman/Wilson, Thirteen/Cuddy or Chase/Taub together it will be great for you. Never forget the show isn't only for shippers OK ! Just my opinion but I stop watching the show since few weeks I'm not buying anything. Where're the medical mysteries, the good storylines ?

Myrtyleg janice_22, you're right. House isn't for shippers only. I guess shippers can't help looking at everything with shipper eyes. I'm a Huddy and I don't like the Lucas storyline so I can imagine how people who don't ship Huddy, or don't ship at all, feel about it. It's a real downer and it's boring. I'm over it already. I just want the writers to hurry up and move it along. If I want to see something like that, I'll watch Greys. This is House. Or have the writers forgotten that?

janice_22 Thanks I used to like the chemistry between House/Cuddy but this time is really too much it turns to soap opera it's ridiculous. Lucas is really the 'wrong' man for her and it's not natural at all (my opinion). But i don't watch the show anymore i'm just bored with it :-//

janice_22 No need help lifeislife you're not god happily :o))) May I say I odn't like the storyline ?! I don't blame Lisa; I just 'hate' (too big word) this stupid arc. And we're human with different way to see something and I don't like Lucas's character and don't like Michael as an actor sorry I don't change my mind. You can write a 'novel' it doesn't change anything for me :o)

Myrtyleg Read your article livethislifeup. Thanks for directing me to it. I agree with you abut the nasty comments that tend to erupt whenever Ausiello posts House spoilers. Other than that, I think I'm justified to feel as I do about this soapy arc. All the reviews and recaps are saying the same thing so I feel vindicated. I love House but I just don't like Luddy. Maybe it will get better but at the moment... meh.
