For the second episode of the second season this was by far one of the best episodes yet in this series. It wasn't the case, it wasn't the amazing quotes, it was the story. The acting, and all of the emotions that were uncovered in this case that really made this episode stand out. I'm gonig to do things differently and start with the B case (Gillian and Loker's case)
So let's get on a role, shall we?

--

Now Gillian and Loker's case. They get a semi-interesting case, it dosen't heat up until the end, but all in all it was a meaningful case for Gillian. They go to visit a Church Compound and meet Jamie, the runner, I could say, of the whole place and they're investigating for Tax Frauds. But what they find is completley different. Loker says "God, would that be you?" refering to Jamie. Nice, but this guy has 12 kids. (Someones been busy...)
Next when we see them, Gillian's connecting with the kids while they are making crafts. Of course, she asks them to read what it says, but they can't read! Wow, actually this fact was never delt with past this scene, but it starts pointing fingers towards Jamie.
We learn, once again, that Loker dosen't believe in much relegion, he compares praying to God, to schitzophrenia. So I don't think we'll see Loker ever pryaing unless he's REALLY in deep...or he has indeed gone crazy. (House, anyone?)
We learn that Kathrine (the mother of the kids who dosen't believe in Jamie) was once a 'druggie' and that Jamie helped her, and cleaned her out. But Gillian wants to protect her from Jamie and this is where things get a little bit more interesting.
Jamie is pretty high and mighty of himself, thinking he is a prophet and that his 'teachings' come DIRECTLY from God. He even goes so far as to insult Gillian about the fact that she has no kids. (She once did, adopted Sophie but was taken back by the mother) This Jamie guy really pushes her buttons "My seeds flourish...while yours don't." As if Gillian wasn't wound up enough as it was, now Jamie is offering to keep Gillian there to 'help her concieve'. Ouch.
Now Gillian takes action. She runs into Katherine and asks her "Are you ready to leave?" She has arranged a van to take her and her kids to a safe house to get them out of there. Good on her part, but I fear that Gillian will pay dearly for this because Jamie didn't look to happy when he saw his 'family' being taken away.
Loker, of course, lies for her, telling the IRS person that Gillian didn't arrange it, that "What she's saying is true."
Loker lied for her because he's "Got to have faith in something...I'm putting it in you."
Only time will tell whats gonig to happen from here.

But Cal and Ria's case is somewhat more interesting.
We open the episode with a pretty risque' party, and this is where our A case is set up. Of course, Kabe is arrested for soroity rape. And so it begins.
Opening credits, and I just noticed that Haley's name was included...I may have missed that in the last episode, but I was so giddy then I missed half of the episode due to...techinical difficulties...anywho.

We see Cal and Gillian together looking all smiley and happy talking to eachother (rejoice Callian fans, it IS a possibility) and Loker comes up with some Chimpanzee sex tape that has ALMOST nothing to do with this episode, but it made me spill my drink. Anyways. Zoe saves Cal and Gillian from another horrifying Loker convorsation by bringing them the A case.

Cal immediatly sparks off; "Cults have riots", and "...underage girls and sex, just not my cup of tea." Well I should certainly hope not. Mind you, it's only because he's concerned for his daughter that he takes the case. We learn (or maybe you knew) that Zoe has some 'Black and White leaves on her family tree' her parents, one white one black, causes an interesting, but technically pointless feud with the "victim's" (Kabe's) lawyer. (It means alot in the end.)
Cal confronts Kabe as he usually does, start off with harmless questions then dive right into the deep stuff. "Do you like sex with little girls?" It's scary to hear this comming from Cal and to type this up, but Kabe denys it and Cal believes him. As he hopefully should.
Now, Emily goes to the same school as Susan (the victim), and this concerns Cal, all of these Frat Parties, Emily could be going to them.
Cal curiouser, and curiouser, uses his 'covert scientific technique' to tell what his daughter is hiding. What he finds isn't too cheerful. Not one, but 2 fake ID's and a lovely case full of Birth Control Pills. Now, Emily's ID's are only being used to get into Bar's, but JUST FOR THE MUSIC. Right, now I believe her, she seems like a good kid just experementing with the boundries of the law, but Cal is another matter. This isn't the best thing for your dad to find before you have a chance to explain anything, but luckily for Emily's sake, Zoe walks in but Emily storms out saying; "You said you would never read read me, and you just did." Her trust with him is damaged, but no wonder she would want to hide these things from him. Zoe tells Cal that it's better for Emily to have the pills than to not have them at all. She tells him that she hasn't needed to use them yet, but this scares the crap out of Cal. (But it would scare the crap out of any parent. Tim: your acting was AMAZING in this episode.) Zoe makes a good point saying, "You see alot of fears in your job from people lying, but you can't put all of those fears on Emily." So true.
Now the case, Cal shows some...pictures...to Kabe, of some...women, and starts spouting off the age to read his reastions to the...figures...of the women, then the age. He lied about the 15 year old girl's age. (Sad when you can actually believe that a 22 year old woman would be a 15 year old teenager.) But just when he thinks the case is over, that Kabe honestly didn't know the age of Susan, the lawyer runs in and calims that there was a sex tape recorded.
Fan-dabie-dosey.
Now Cal's all mad because he's believed that he missed something, but right away after all of the usual yelling, he's called into the lab. Cal's really pissed off. He's letting his emotions run in the way of the case *cough*Ria*cough*, but he's only concerned about Emily.
Cal takes Ria out for a bit; "Where are we going?" "Back to School!" ...if it were only as exciting to go to school as Cal makes it out to be...
But another raunchy party, or FRAT party, as it were, Ria's grindin' some moves while she's looking for answers....riight. Answers...Cal was actually convinced that she was drunk. I was too. But she really was doing her job, and there were 3 men that could be the possible recorders of the sex tape.
Cal jumps right into the question again, "Who made the sex tape?" and thanks to the wonderful science that this show is based off of, they find their man and question him. This guy only posted it online as a joke, but he claims he just ran into it when he was over for a beer. Naturally, he's telling the truth, but the camera leads us to act 3, where Emily is on the camera too.
Cal, freaked out, confronts Emily, she says "It's only a couple of seinors who she hangs out with." (This is just my opinion, but NEVER hang out with seinors...like the ones in this episode. Trouble will ensue.) But this video was just taken before the pary and outside of the school so she's safe. (For now...DUN-DUN-DUUNNNN....)
Cal runs off to look for the two girls that Emily was with in the video and that leads to 2 conclusions. 1: These two girls are REALLY preps and future (if not already) s**ts, saying "It's just sex." And 2: It was Susan who recorded the tape. (Well forced too, but still...it changes the whole perspective of this case.) Cal, a very smart dad, made a BIG mistake, confronting the two girls telling them to stay away from his daughter. (That will only want to make them bring her in closer, but Emily's smarter than those two preps combined.)
Cal visit's Susan's home and makes Susan tell her dad what REALLY happened. This sparks off the whole debate about what they should do. But the lawyer (Zoe's old...frienemy) that all charges were dropped on Kabe's part...that really makes the dad mad. Cal stops him, seeing this, but he makes the false assumption that he was going to take out his rage on Kabe...but he was sorely mistaken.
The dad was mad about the 'system' and therefore he shot the lawyer. Cal missed it...but that wasn't covered in this episode. It was all they could do.

Cal has a meaningful, yet short, convorsation with Emily, both shocked by the outcome of this situation.
"How did all of this get so messed up?" "Consequences.....you can't predict them."
That's what scares Cal the most...and we end with a emotional hug between father and daughter, both understanding of eachother and on an even ground.

--

This was quite the episode, and deffinatly one that I will be watching over and over again.

It was quite the emotional ride for Gillian with the kids, and the whole situation about being forced to stay with Jamie or loose her kids...and Gillian knows EXACTLY how difficult that is. She takes a big step to assure the saftey of Katherine, one that might put her saftey on the line...but in my eyes, it WAS the right thing to do. Honestly, I don't think that Gillian would have been able to live with herself if she had left them there. It would have the same effect on her either way though.

Now Ria and Loker...not so much. Loker it was the Chimpanzee Sex tape and the lab...and Ria it was the 'new kid' act and the whole learning process. But she is getting good at her job, and quickly becoming a valuble member in the Lightman Gorup.

Notice that Ben Reynolds wasn't here? I just did now.

And finally Cal. His situation with Emily, (the one that was released a few weeks ago) came up this episode, and he handled it like any parent would. (But only with the added fact that he can tell when your lying....) he was shocked, as he rightfully should, he overreacted, as any parent would, but he immediatly put the assumption on Emily that she WAS having sex and everything bad that comes with it.

Tim's acting was amazing, and my God, this is going to be an amazing season.

In the new TV Guide's preview of returning fall shows, the blurb for Lie to Me mentions that Cal will discover Emily has been drinking and sexually active, and there will be all kinds of issues with him having to deal with it.

Sounds to me like there will be ALOT to deal with this season.
Personally, I think that they should have left these kind of 'typical' teenage issues out of Emily's character and out of the SHOW...but I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.

I mean, Cal is a protective father, now just imagine him discovering this from his daughter...O.o

He's going to beat himelf up about it, and (Dare I say it) even HER if this goes to far. But THAT situation ever unfolding is FAR beyond Cal's character.

The Lightman Group's expertise is called into question when a woman (Tricia Helfer) plays cat-and-mouse with Cal while he's checking for security leaks at an art museum prior to a major exhibition.
