The four were at their favorite hangout, the Concrete Jungle Jumble, giving themselves a much needed break from the self assigned community service they've been doing.
"So I said, 'my head should be on my shoulders? Look who's talkin'.'" Skipper said, giving the other three a good laugh.
Marlene, the waitress, came back with the check.
"I'll take it when you're ready," Marlene said.
"Alright, Marlene, and how about you meet me in the back room afterwards?" Skipper suggested.
"Sounds good to me, Skipper," Marlene replied while giving a sly smile and walking away.
As Skipper was taking out his wallet, Kowalski was looking over at another table and sees a girl who was looking blue. As she was getting ready to leave, Kowalski was thinking about going after her.
"Hey, guys. I've gotta go somewhere. How about I just meet you back home?" Kowalski said.
Skipper saw the expression on Kowalski's face that resembled the want to try to help someone out, so he allowed Kowalski to go.
Kowalski followed the girl out of the restaurant and realized that she was awfully quick, and faintly saw a frown on her face. He barely knew this woman and yet, he wants to help her out somehow. One of the questions is "what does she need help with?"
As he managed to finally catch up to her, he tried to talk to her.
"Wait up, wow you're pretty fast," Kowalski said, catching his breath.
"Only when I daze off. Wait a minute, I saw you at the restaurant," she said.
"I saw you, too. You seemed upset and I wanted to know how I can help you out," Kowalski explained.
"I don't need help. If I did, then my strength would be questioned," she responded.
"Hold on, we haven't been properly introduced. I'm Kowalski," Kowalski mentioned
"Hi, my name is Monique," Monique answered.
"Now look, Monique, I've spent my life helping others, so I can tell when someone has a problem or a need of assistance," Kowalski confirmed.
Monique didn't want to feel weak. Although part of her wanted to trust Kowalski, she didn't think she needed help.
"Kowalski, like I said, if I needed help, then my strength would be questioned. I've handled being on my own before and there's no doubt I can continue," Monique said in a serious tone.
Kowalski looked into Monique's eyes and realizes that she doesn't really mean what she's saying. From looking in her eyes, he can tell that she, in fact, does need a hero to help her out in her life, but she doesn't feel comfortable convincing herself.
"Everyone needs some help every once in a while," he said calmly.
"Well, there are just some things that people just have to face on their own. Self proclaimed isolation is one of them," Monique responded.
"You isolate yourself?"
"Only because I'm use to being a loner. I've been partially anti social for a long time and I kinda debate with myself on it being a good decision until i remember that i'll avoid getting hurt."
As Monique was about to go, Kowalski grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
"I know it's against every scientific being in my body, but maybe I can help you feel less alone, probably as a guardian angel," Kowalski gently assured.
"Listen, my heart doesn't break," Monique remarked.
"The tear from your eye says otherwise," Kowalski pointed out.
"Well, my lips don't kiss," Monique said.
To be sure, Kowalski kissed Monique out of nowhere.
"Well, they seem to kiss just fine," he answered.
"You know how they say life's about working together? Life is just a lie," Monique said turning around.
"There can be a loophole around that," he came up with.
"And I know you said to think of you as a guardian angel, but heaven possibly doesn't exist, so what good will that do?" Monique asked, nearly crying.
Kowalski knew that he'd have to try harder if he was going to pursuade her that everything is going to be alright.
"Why would you want to be by yourself, anyway?" he finally asked.
Monique looked back with red eyes from crying and sighed.
"The truth is, there's always a risk of losing someone you really care about. I don't want to end up being one of those people who will end up losing someone for any reason, so I just stay alone to avoid the tragedy," Monique replied in a depressed tone.
There was rain trickling down on their heads. Monique ended up silently sobbing to match the weather. Kowalski didn't want to see her cry, so he came closer and held her in his arms with comfort.
"Just put your trust in me, Monique, you won't have to worry," Kowalski whispered.
"How would you know? Why shouldn't I have to worry?" Monique asked while sobbing.
Kowalski turned Monique's head softly so that she would be looking at him, and he rubbed her hair.
"Because I promise that I will do whatever I can to stay by your side and be the hero that you need," Kowalski reassured.
As if to show he really means what he's saying, his face came closer to hers and kissed her as caringly as he can. Monique felt scared before then, but all the fear was melting away at that moment. When the kiss was broken, Monique let out a tear of happiness.
"Now do you trust me?" Kowalski asked.
Monique just gave him a nod and he gave her a hug which she gladly returned. Maybe it didn't mean someone was weak if they had a hero in their life.
