1.1Welcome to another of my series of guides! This one will cover spriting of Pokemon. link is 1. The making of a sprite. ('Original spriting'(Shown later in this guide) 2. The changing of colors of a sprite (Re-colors(Mentioned later in this guide) 3. Taking parts of one sprite onto another (Splicing(Also covered later in this guide) and 4. Adding an original object/mark on a sprite (Scratch-spriting(Yep, you guessed it! Later in this guide!).
Each of these techniques will result in a sprite, which is also known as a group of pixels put together to make a figure.
2.1-Original Spriting
Original Spriting is the art of making an original sprite. These sprites that are made in this style have NOT (I repeat...NOT) been used anywhere else, and are completely unique.
2.2-Recolor
Recolors are changing the colors of a sprite...much like a Shiny Pokemon. These don't rank well in contests because not much has changed.
2.3-Splices
Splicing is taking part of a Pokemon and putting it onto another. Such as Pika-fett (See my profile pics). It's a Wobbuffet+Pikachu fushion. It helps to have ONLY ONE Pokemon used as the base, as well as changing the colors to match. Wouldn't a yellow tail and ears look weird on a blue Wobbuffet?
2.4-Scratch Spriting
Scratch Spriting is very cool. It is adding something new to the sprite. Such as a Delibird holding a letter or something.
3.1-Examples
3.2-Recolor-
The Aqua Luxray below is a Recolor and a Scratch sprite. Why? Because his/her colors were changed, and because it has two tails. (Normal Luxray have only one, so they had to add another)
3.3-Scratch Sprites-
The Armoured Mewtwo and the Ciphown are scratch sprites. Armoured Mewtwo has his armour (British way of saying it XD) added, and the Ciphown (Unown based sword?) was completely made of no base!
And so...I have to end this for now. Next time, we will explore how to do re-colors! But now...
