The house is silent, the sound of crickets chirping comes through the open window. I look down at my 3 year old son, Jacob.

Your little hands wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light

I look down at him, his little baby blue eyes are shut tight, his dark brown hair lays softly on his pillow. His arms are tightly around his stuffed bunny and he lets out a smile. I smile back, but i know he cant see me, because he must be lost in his wonderful dream.

I step out the door and walk down the hallway. As I walk down the hallway, out of the corner of my eye, I see a picture. I turn and look at it. A single tear runs down my cheak. In the picture, theres Me,Duncan and 1 year old Jacob. We're all smiling,I was so happy, I was 21 at the time. I couldn't wait to grow up when I was a little girl. But now i regret it.

Duncan, He broke my heart, he left me to live alone with 3 year old Jacob. How can i live here, by myself? I can't trust anybody. Only if i could tell Jacob that, but he wont understand. I'll try to protect Jacob, I wont let anyone break his heart.

Now its 11 years later, I'm taking him to the movies. It's his 1st date, with a girl he says he loves. I just hope he doesn't get hurt.

The next night, he starts yelling at me. Saying he can't wait 'til he gets older and can make his own decicions. He thinks I'm stupid, but im just trying to protect him.

At 14, there's just so much you can't do

4 Years later, he decides he's moving out and never coming back. I cry and beg him to stay. But he dosen't listen to anything i say. He asks me to take him to his new apartment he just bought. So i drive him to the apartment and he gets out of the car with his bag of clothes and waves to me.

(Jacob's POV)

I walk into my apartment. It smells like fresh new paint. I look around, the walls are blank and theres just a couch and a tv. In one of the bedrooms there's a bed and another tv. In the kitchen theres a sink and a refrigerator. I look around and sigh. It's cold, colder than i expected. I tuck myslef in and turn on my night light.

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

I look up at the ceiling. Its dead silence besides the sound of crickets chirping coming through the open window. I let out a tear.
