Arthur Weasley vs Charlie Swan: Who's the better Father Figure?

Arthur Weasley: Father of 7 kids, loves his wife Molly, works hard to make ends meet and never seen lying around the house like some Husbands, although low-income, he continues to be positive and happy about life, loyal, jokes around sometimes, there for his children, offers to be a father figure to Harry, never gives up, and [on a side-note] very accepting of others. He also gives advice as well and doesn't let enemies get him down.

Charlie Swan: Has only 1 daughter, divorced and never thought on dating anyone else, when he's not working he either hunts or sits all day drinking beer and watching sports, barley does anything with Bella [except when going to the dinky diner which, really isn't much at all] can't cook or doesn't even want to learn how to, didn't bother to comfort Bella during her "Depression" and when he is involved he only threats to either send her to a doctor or send her back to her mother, rather than actually sitting with her and talking it out like a real father should, acts like a freaking zombie most of the time and only active when there's trouble in Forks.

Now you guys decide, who is a better father?

teamsalvatore98 Weasely :P BUT, I prefer not to spend time with my dad, so I guess if it were ME talking, and not my good sense, I'd say Charlie.

youknowit101 Being divorced doesn't make you a bad parent. You don't have to date women to be a good dad. He didn't date because he really loved his first wife. He's afraid of love, so he doesn't show it as much as he could. He's a shy guy, afraid to show his feelings, but does what needs to be done. Bella's happy with it, so what's the problem?

Italktosnakes ^Bella might have been happy with it, doesn't mean it was good for her. People are happy with slobbing around drinking and smoking all day, doesn't mean it's good :L x

bri-marie Both. Charlie was everything Bella needed and wanted him to be. Just like how Arthur was everything the Weasley's wanted and needed him to be. The fact that Charlie never did anything with Bella doesn't have anything to do with him being a good or bad father figure - Bella didn't [i]want[/i] to spend much time with him. Charlie makes several comments about how bad he feels leaving her alone too much and Bella assures him that it's perfectly okay. Bella took over the cooking. Just like the spending time thing, Charlie makes comments about how much Bella does and Bella assures him that she's perfectly happy doing the cooking. And what do you think Charlie did for the seventeen years before Bella came along? He knew how to cook. Bella wanted to cook, she was good at cooking, and she was happy cooking. It wasn't inconveniencing her or negatively effecting any aspect of her life, so why would he make a big deal out of it and continue to cook the meals? Bella was catatonic after Edward left - she wasn't even aware that [i]months[/i] had gone by. It wouldn't have mattered how Charlie comforted her, she would not have been mentally aware of what's going on. He was at the end of his rope but still wanted to help her. There is [i]nothing[/i] wrong with the fact that he wanted medical attention for his depressed daughter. Talking things out, believe me, doesn't always work to cure depression. Sometimes the person [i]does[/i] need medical help. How does he act like a zombie if he hunts, fishes, took care of himself before Bella came along, and does his job as a cop?

wotcher-tonks ^I thought it was said in the books that Charlie lived on take out in the books, but I could be wrong. I think Weasley is the better father. I feel that if Charlie acted better towards Bella when she visited him in Forks when she was younger, she might have wanted to spend more time with him. Arthur was never seen lying around, you're right. Charlie isn't a bad father; he did try to help Bella when she was depressed. But, overall, Arthur is the better father. (In my opinion)

Cheygirl I have to agree with youknowit101 because that is exactly my dad. My parents got a divorce when I was 5 and then he got a girlfriend 2 years later and they recently broke up and got back together again. And just because someone has one kid doesnt mean anything. Im my dad's only kid too. My dad is a great dad and just because he went through that doesnt mean that he is bad dad. It has nothing to do with it. But I do have to agree that Arthur is a better dad though

HPfan236 Charlie was hardly there through half of the series because Bella was almost always with Edward Arthur is an awesome father he is the kind of loose going parent who loves to have fun but he also loves all seven of his children and does his best to support them despite the fact his job does not pay well.
