July 4, 1776 - After various changes to Jefferson's original draft, a vote was taken late in the afternoon of July 4th. Of the thirteen colonies, nine voted in favor of the Declaration; Two, Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted No; Delaware was undecided and New York abstained.
John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress, was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence.
I know the fourth may seem just about fireworks and paties but it is infact a great day in history. If you got back to look it over you will see that for many years America struggled to become independant. We were onlt thirteen colonies at the time, and if you think about it thats not a lot; compared to what we are now. Just think of how much work our ancestors had to go through to get us to where we are now. When you are watching those fireworks, or parting it up at parties, take a moment to think that if it wasn't for our four fathes we woouldn't be able to do that.
