Epilogue
The Golden Gate Bridge was busy tonight. The reddish tom stood on the edge. He was proud. He hissed with fear as a car whisked by, then his fur lay flat. This was his city. He was in control. The tom sensed a presence behind him. "Tide. Why are you here?"
"Match. I could ask you the same question," the tortishell tom hissed to Match as he leapt up beside his leader. Match growled with annoyance."Have you killed Sun yet? If she gives birth to Ebony's son, we are doomed, and Axes's plan cannot proceed."
"I am working on it!" Tide's claws unsheathed. "She's on the move all the time!"
"Deal with it! You've already killed Ebony! Hurry up with Sun!" Match snarled.
Chapter 1
"Get in the barrel!" Sun ordered.
"Why?" Red whined.
"Now!"
Red grumbled as he was picked up by his mother and gently set inside a wooden barrel with a peep hole about as big as his head. They where always running all the time. It wasn't fair.
Red looked at his reddish fur. He was too young for this: one moon old.
Sun sat in the middle of the ally, her golden fur sparkling, not from cleanness, but from sickening grease.
A tortishell tom stepped into the ally. His fur was very clawed, and his eyes reflected pure darkness and evil.
"Tide, you have no right to come into this ally," Sun said calmly. Tide bared his teeth. "I have every right. You know Riven pulled back to Pier 39. Why are you in the middle of Match's territory? Do you want to prove something..." Tide lifted his chin. "... or did Riven think YOU killed your lover. Even I thought they wouldn't believe that rumor."
"What?! You got me banished?! You bastard!" Sun's voice was filled with surprise and hatred.
"And you killed my mate! I'll kill you!"
Tide smiled."Not if I do first." Tide knocked Sun over with one smack. "We both know I'll win any fight with you any day."
He sunk his claws into Sun's throat. Blood spilled out of her wound, staining Tide's paws. "That was easy."
"No!" Red whispered."This can't be happening!"
Tide just laced out of the ally and down the sidewalk out of sight. Red squirmed through the hole and shook Sun.
Her body convulsed once or twice with her paws twitching feebly.
"Sun! Wake up! Give me a sign that you're alive!" Red put his ear to Sun's chest, expecting to hear a strong heartbeat, struggling to stay alive. Instead, he heard silence.
