Chapter 5

The door swung open to reveal the form of Professor McGonagall hunched over the huge desk she sat behind, she looked up and their entry and pushed the pieces of work she had been sorting through to one side in a neat pile.
“Just the two people I’d been waiting for, please Mr Malfoy, Miss Granger take a seat.” The two students sat down in two comfortable chairs that were placed so conveniently in front of the smiling woman, this was a rare sight to see, Minerva McGonagall normally kept a stern Facade so students wouldn’t think she was a push over. McGonagall continued to talk.
“I’m sure you found you rooms to your liking?” Hermione and Draco nodded, not wanting to interrupt the woman with meaningless chatter.
“As I’m sure you know, as Head boy and Girl you are in charge of your prefects, making sure they know the rules, giving them patrolling duties and seeing they do not slack off. As you cannot call a meeting with them on such short notice, last night and this evenings Patrols will be handled by the teachers. After tonight, it will be up to you and the prefects, if you are unable to have it planned by tomorrow then I am afraid that you will have to do it all until you have everything organised, Patrols are to be from 9 until 11pm each evening, and at least 2 prefects or yourselves must be present each night. Weekends will be covered by professors. Do you have any questions?” Draco and Hermione’s heads moved in synchronization, once again both staying silent.
“Also, all Hogsmeade trips have been planned, it is your duty to help make sure students are safe while on the visits, obviously you can’t follow them all around but if you see anything happening that shouldn’t be then you must stop it. Also it is in your rights to plan any extra Hogsmeade visits if you deem the necessary. Of course those dates to need to be approved by me first. Also you are allowed to plan certain events in school, namely parties or dances, all these events need to have specific reasons for happening though and like the Hogsmeade weekends need to be approved by me.” Hermione’s brain was already working; thinking of ideas for the future, Draco watched her out of the corner of his eye and slight curl to the corner of his lips at her concentrated expression. This didn’t go un-noticed by McGonagall who had to fight to keep her own smile from her lips.
“You two are some of the most- if not the most intelligent students in this school, I believe between you, you will be able to make some excellent decisions that will benefit our school, please don’t let me down. Another problem has been brought to my attention already, it seems that while the 5th years and upwards have not caused any problems so far between houses, the longer years aren’t being as lenient in letting go of past inter-house rivalries, even though it is only the first day back it has already been made fairly obvious, hopefully the new seating plans should help but I would appreciate it if you two could also try and help break down the barriers between houses.” The two heads took this as their dismissal and both stood, Draco inclined his head in a goodbye. Hermione broke the silence.
“Thank you Professor, have a good evening.” With these last words the two former foes left the office, leaving Professor McGonagall to turn to the portrait behind her.
“I do hope you know what you are doing Albus, this is the most power we have placed with the Head boy and school since the beginning of the school.” Albus Dumbledore’s eyes shone as he smiled.
“Oh Minerva, I believe Miss Granger and Mr Malfoy will make the best decisions possible, and will help the house rivalries problem more than we had hoped.” Albus fell silent, McGonagall musing over his words.
“I hope you’re not trying to play Matchmaker Albus, It can only end in tears…”
Meanwhile back in the Heads dorms Draco was lazing in a green arm chair in front of the flickering fire. Hermione had rushed straight upstairs it had been only ten minutes when the smiling Gryffindor girl pranced back down the stairs into the room. She had changed out of her robes and was now in a pair of shorts and a Jumper that hung off one shoulder as it was too big for her. Her normal bushy hair was in a loose bun on top of her head. In her arms she was carrying what looked like a sort of Parchment (Muggle paper?) and instead of a quill it was a thin stick, slightly smaller and thinner than a wand. Using her elbow she had a huge hardback book, it was clutched tightly, she hoped it wouldn’t fall.

Hermione climbed into the red chair that was off to the side of the green one that Draco was already seated in. He hadn’t taken proper notice when she had walked down the stairs but now, as she sat cross legged on the huge chair, the book resting on her knee’s with the paper on that and the lid of the pen resting on her lip he couldn’t help but admire how peaceful she looked- how pretty. Draco tried to stop the thoughts coming but the fire that lay flickering in front of them was lighting her up and casting shadows around her, making her look like she glowed. She looked up quickly, sensing eyes on her. Draco tried to move his gaze from her but wasn’t quick enough to stop her seeing the hint of pink tinged on his cheeks. The corners of her lips curled up slightly, into a small smile.
“So, how are we going to do this?” Hermione talking brought Draco’s eyes back around to meet hers his eyebrows furrowed together, confused.
“Do what?” Hermione shook her head, rolling her eyes, laughing gently.
“You know the patrols, events, and Hogsmeade weekends? Ring any bells Malfoy? We were talking about it with McGonagall. It was less than an hour ago!” Hermione, Draco realised was far too sarcastic at times, she was quick, he would give her that.
“Yes Granger I remember, but why do we need to sort it out now? Why not in a few days?” Hermione picked up the cushion next to her and threw it at Draco’s face with surprisingly good aim, he was to shocked to catch it so it smacked him right on target, it didn’t hurt though, it was only a fluffy cushion. Both of them stopped moving, both shocked at what Hermione had done, it wasn’t violent, just joking, something you might do to a friend. Draco tossed the cushion back after a moment, grinning, one of the first real smile’s Hermione had really seen grace Draco’s pale face. Hermione began to talk, breaking them both out of the slightly awkward silence that had engulfed them.
“If we do it now then we won’t have to do it later in the week when we have tons of homework plus having to patrol, and if we want any events then McGonagall will have more time to decide whether we are allowed them or not. And I really don’t want to have to be doing Patrols by ourselves for however long it takes to get the patrols timetable done.” Draco just shrugged and nodded his head; Hermione was already drawing out a table, ready to place the names of the prefects down on the sheet in the right places.

It didn’t take Hermione and Draco long to sort out Prefect duties once they were both fully concentrating on it. Once everything was done and copies had been made for each common room and individual Prefect plus a copy for the heads common room. Draco made to get up when Hermione stopped him, Calling to him and reaching out a hand but dropping it when she remembered who he was.
“Hey Malfoy, I had an Idea for just before Christmas, We could hold a big Christmas Party, a ball sort of thing on the last night before people leave for the Holidays, for all the years. 1st to 3rd years leaving at 10:30pm and everyone else could stay until midnight? I just think it would be a fun Idea, something for people to look forward to, especially those who have to stay here at Hogwarts over the holidays.” She looked up at him, biting her lip lightly an apprehensive look in her eyes.

Draco seemed to be thinking the idea over, he was still, unmoving, not even blinking, and then slowly he nodded.
“It’s a good idea Granger, we’ll check it with McGonagall tomorrow but it’s getting late and I don’t want to oversleep tomorrow. Goodnight Granger.” And without another word Draco left, almost sprinting to his bedroom, Hermione sat shocked for a moment but then got up, picking up the things she needed, walking to her room, when she got to where the stairs split off up to Draco’s room she left a faint whisper of a “goodnight” and left to her room, slowly, not wanting to go to sleep because she knew what was coming.

Draco woke up to screaming, it was early, maybe 3am but it was a noise he had heard so many times before, it was the sound of someone being tortured.

Fini (don’t ask, I’ve been putting random French words in everything I’ve done since yesterday) I’m so sorry I took so long, I’m awful, I promised this chapter about 2 weeks ago and I didn’t and it isn’t even a long chapter. I wanted to write more but decided it would be quicker just to get this out now and I wanted to be mean :P Hope you liked this chapter, the next one will be shorted but filled with Dramione Fluffy shizz :D Until next time, leave me your opinions :D

Sorry About this I actually published the whole thing so far previously but removed it because it was too long so I will be putting up 3 chapters at a time from now on.

This is only temporary and the beginnings of a MASSIVE fan fic. So can you just tell me if you like it? That would be great! :)

DISCLAIMER - I don't own any of the Harry Potter characters. I do own Alex, though.

Note - It’s based on a sort of mixture between the book and the movie, but the characters’ appearances and personalities are more like the adaptions in the movie.

Harry is in the forbidden forest, standing in front of Voldemort, about to give up his life. The book states "...and Harry thought inexplicably of Ginny, and her blazing look, and the feel of her lips on his--".

Now, a basic reading of this moment and people would think Harry's last thoughts were of kissing Ginny. Those who ship Harry with someone other than Ginny, will have his last thoughts be of that girl. For example, Harry and Hermione shippers, via the use of screen caps from the movies, will have Harry's last thoughts be of her.

However, what if there was more to this moment than meets...

LORD Voldemort is definitely NOT Harry's dad. Rowling has a retort for anyone who develops this theory: "You lot have been watching much too much Star Wars."

There was a time when he loved her. A time when he actually could love, and she'd get him to do so again.

His name was Tom, she had met him during her first year at Hogwarts. He was in her herbology class, and was really the only thing that made actually showing up to the class worth while. At that point it was all too simple; two eleven year old children playing petty pranks in between classes and exchanging silly notes in the middle of class, mostly consisting of ridiculous and poorly drawn pictures of her dear cousin Sirius. The two would often sit before a fire in the common room and simply...

Shouldn’t have turned around
(From the view of Draco)
Have you ever seen something so beautiful as light? Whatever it is that you saw it would never be as beautiful as the light I have just witnessed as it stands this light which holds my heart together in one piece ceases to know I existed. Even though we walked down the same corridors to such things as laborious lessons that I cannot wish to attend, she floats on cloud nine as she embraces her muggle-born ways that I Draco Malfoy mock her with my own undying love to her... the more she floats the more I fall and the only way that I can hold...
