My name is Max. I'm 14. Right now, you're probably thinking, "Okay.. What type of opening is that?" Well, it's mine. Deal with it. I've been through a lot, so cut me some slack. Let's get to the point. I'm different. Not like, I have a purple Mohawk and over 50 piercings different, more like I have 14' of bird wings stuck to my upper back, different. I know, no need to think it, IT ISN'T MY FAULT, OKAY? There is 5 more like me, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy (The Gasman), and Angel. We are all... Well, unique like that. We each have our own, original, personality. Me, I'll get to that later. Let's start with Fang.
Fang is... For lack of a better word, goth. No, he doesn't cut (I think), because that's emo. He's the "Strong but Silent" type. Well, he has dark hair, dark eyes, dark 16' wings, and, to your surprise, he wears dark clothes. He has the power to blend in with things. Also, sometimes I think he has a "thing" for me.... (Ick!)
Iggy is blind. Now, if he read this, (More like: Had it read to him,) I would probably get punched in the gut for putting this first. But, he is very important in The Flock. He is tall, thin, and very caring. He has sandy blonde hair, blue eyes, and did I mention the if he touches you, he can see colors? Yeah, it's pretty cool. And no, he wasn't born blind, I'll get to that.
Nudge is a chatterbox. Asking her a detailed question is suicide. She is a fashionista, and very pretty. Now, she may be black, and may seem innocent, but Nudge can have a bad side. NOBODY wants to be on her bad side. And did I mention that by touching and electronic object, she can see the past history? Not by like, clicking the "View History" button, but actually what happened around the computer/electronic device thingy. I must say, it's pretty cool.
The Gasman is an... Interesting character. Why would you name a kid Gazzy, you ask? Well, we are pretty sure he has bowel issues. He seems to act as if he is Iggy's sidekick, but not an average sidekick. A bomb-making sidekick. Yeah, he's pretty good at gadgets. Gassy has blonde hair, blue eyes, and he is quite a little trooper. As for superpower, I'm not sure he has one, except for Noxious Farts, and imitating us. Those are killer.
The last, and certainly not least, Angel. I tend to think of her as my daughter. She can read minds, control people, breathe underwater, and talk to fish. She has a dog, named Total, and a stuffed bear, Celeste. Other than superpowers, she has blonde, curly hair, and she is related to Gazzy. They are the only ones that are actually blood related.
So... That's the Flock. We are all Avian-Americans, (2% Bird, 98% Human), and all created by Whitecoats. We all were created in the School, a lab where normal humans create monsters. We escaped, and have been living by ourselves ever since.
We were led by Jeb, a Whitecoat that claimed that he was good. He gave us a house, trained us, and acted like a father, until he left us. To go back to that horrible place.
At the School, when we were young, Iggy was tested on, to see if they could improve his vision. They failed, resulting in blindness.
Well, we all have superpowers, wings, and... I think I'm forgetting something.. My bio!
Max is awesome. She is the coolest thing alive. Max has blonde hair, and brown eyes. She can flying over 200mph, while the rest of the flock can do around 120mph. She relies on snap decisions, and is the leader of the Flock. Max also has an annoying Voice inside her head.
Okay, so, you probably think our life is perfect. Well, all stories have as bad side. Ours are Flyboys and Erasers.
Erasers are Man-Wolf hybrids that are meant to kill us birdy kids. They pretty much are what you humans would call "Werewolves". They want to kill us, mainly because they were ordered to. That's the Whitecoats' job.
Flyboys are simply Erasers with wings. since Erasers are so heavy, they don't fly as well as us. To bad for them.
Moving on, I believe I forgot to mention some things.
1. We don't have parents.
2. We all are/have tall, thin, excellent eyesight, and a quick heartbeat.
3. Fang, Iggy and I are 14, Nudge is 11, Gazzy is 8, and Angel is 6.
4. The Flock's worst enemy is Ari. He is a Flyboy that hates me, right down to the bone. Don't worry about us though, we'll be fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dig in, everyone!" I yelled.
The mainroom of the cheap appartent was full of 6 kids, eating pizza. A normal sight, is it not? Unless they're mutants and looked as if they hadn't eaten for months.
Earlier, Fang and I had robbed a pizza man of 4 pizzas. Well, us bird kids, we could eat 2 each. But that wouldn't stop us from eating what we got.
"Did you get any Hawaiian, Max?" Gazzy asked.
"The pizza man only was carrying 2 cheese, 1 pepperoni, and 1 sausage," Fang replied, while stuffing his mouth with a slice of sausage.
"Max, can we order some more pizza? I'm still hungry," Nudge said, giving me Bambi eyes.
Fang looked at me, as if to say, don't give in, Max. We can order more pizza later. But I couldn't help it.
"Who knows the number?" I heard cheering from the entire room.
"Uhhh.. Can't we just go to the store and get it?" Angel said.
"I guess. Since it was Nudge's idea, I'll go with her to go pick some up. What do you guys want?"
"Cheese." Angel replied, simply.
"Hawaiian!" Nudge yelled.
"Sausage!" Fang and Iggy screamed, with their mouths full of pizza.
"Pepperoni, steak, chicken, and sausage, please. All on one pizza." Gazzy said casually.
"Okay. Give me a second to write this all down, and we'll be on our way!" I said, searching frantically for a piece of scrap paper, and a pen.
Angel approached me.
"Uh...Max?"
"Yes, sweetie?"
"Where do we get the money?" She said, innocently.
I halted. It hadn't occurred to me.
"Anyone got some loose change?"
"I have a dime, a nickel, 5 quarters, and chewed up bubble gum," said Gazzy.
"That's not going to pay for your wacked-up pizza," Iggy said.
"Well bite me." Gazy went to pout.
"I have a twenty, 2 quarters, and a fifty. Will that work?" Said Nudge.
"Where did you get that?" We all said, befuddled.
"I gave it to her," Angel said, as she walked in to the room.
"And where did you get that?" I questioned. Angel was acting mysterious.
"A kind man that lived on the street gave it to me."
"Why?"
"I don't know. He just... Gave it to me." She walked back into the kitchen.
"Okay... Then we will use Nudge's money." Fang said, looking very hungry.
We headed down the hall. Turned left, and hit the "Down" button for the elevator.
"Can't we take the stairs?" Nudge said, nervously.
"Those are emergencies only. We have to take the elevator." We mutants were raised in very small cages. Now, we all have extreme claustrophobia.
The elevator doors opened up. I cautiously stepped inside, followed by Nudge.
"Which level?" By now we were both shaking.
"*1." She pressed the button. The elevator slowly climbed downward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, so if you think that it's impossible to be attacked in an elevator, it's not.
The thing that gave the erasers away, is the multiple thumping on top of us while we were going down.
"Max, what is that?" Nudge was scared. It must be the fact that we were trapped in a small space, and being attacked at the same time. An average day of being a mutant bird kid.
"Uhh... The elevator is probably have a technical difficulty. If it stops, the next plan is up, up, and away." The thumping continued. It seemed as if there were at least five erasers on top of the elevator.
I started to unscrew the panel on the to of the elevator without a screw driver. Don't under estimate the power of Max.
The elevator stopped to a halt. he lights went out. I kept unscrewing.
The panel finally fell, and three erasers fell through the roof.
"Max..."
"Not right now, Nudge. You take the one on the left, I'll take care of the others."
She nodded, and stepped to the side. I roundhouse kicked the one in the middle on the side of the head, and blood dripped out off his nose.
I looked over to see an eraser take a swipe at Nudge but she easily evaded it and caught him in an arm lock. He yelped, and dropped to his knees.
I threw a few punches at eraser #3, and a spinning side kick where it counts. He grunted, and plopped down to the ground.
"Good work, Nudge."
"Max, uhh... There's a bit of an issue..."
"What??"
"There's no way out."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I stared at her, in awe.
"What do you mean? The erasers had to come from somewhere," I said.
An eraser struggled to speak. "We tried to ambush you a day ago. Ari told us to climb through the air vent in the shaft, and that we should wait there until you guys used the elevator. Well, it worked until someone clogged the hole and we've been stuck here ever since."
"We weren't asking you, furbrain. I am very aware I am stuck in an enclosed space with absolutely no way out." I used my foot to push him back down, unconcious.
"Max, we have to get out and warn the others about the ambush. The erasers are going to wake up soon," Nudge said quietly.
"I have a plan."
I jumped up through the hole where the panel used to be. All we had to do is fly up, and somehow open the doors.
Somehow.
I helped Nudge up, and told her the idea. She nodded, and we began to flap our wings. Now, I'm sure your like, "Now they are just going to fly up at extreme speeds and somehow get themselves out." But no. Instead, we were stuck in the shaft for 4 hours screaming at the top of our lungs.
"Fang? Iggy? Angel? Gazzy? ANYONE THERE???"
No answer for 3 1/2 hours. HOURS. Until finally, someone came to fix the elevator, and opened the elevator doors. Believe me, They probably thought they were going crazy. 2 kids rushing out from the middle of NOWHERE and heading straight into a room. The poor guy.
"Where were you? I'm starving! Where are the pizzas?" Gazzy exploded.
"Oh, don't blame us, just stuck in an elevator with three unconscious erasers for 4 hours!" I retorted.
"Didn't you hear us screaming?" Nudge asked.
"Nope. We were watching the Superbowl and popping popcorn," said Iggy.
"It was torture..." Fang murmured. I snickered at his comment.
"Well, I'm surprised nobody else did," Nudge said harshly. "You aren't the only one that's hungry. Why can't you think of others instead of just yourself?"
Before Gazzy could continue,"Guys, break it up. We're all hungry. But the important things are staying together, and getting out of this joint. Erasers know where we are."
"Good talk, Max. Now everybody, gather your packs and let's head out," Iggy gathered the troopers, and left me and Fang, alone.
"Sooo... Who won the Superbowl?" I asked.
"Why does anyone care? It's just over payed jerks tackling one another for a living. I can 'Play' better than that," he smirked. I almost smiled back. Almost.
"Okay guys, get packed. We're moving out," Iggy said, herding us to the other room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have been flying for 5 hours now. The Flock was starving by now.
"Max, I'm extremely hungry. Can we stop and get food somewhere below?" Angel asked innocently. Awe, I love that girl.
"Okay. Guys, start losing altitude. We're going to get a midnight snack," I said. Everyone cheered.
"Unless Angel has something to tell us, I don't think we have the money," Iggy stated.
"Nope, I gave it to Nudge," she replied sweetly.
"Wait, if we never spent it on pizza, where'd it go, Nudge?" I asked.
"Uhh... If I remember, the last time I saw it was... Uh-oh."
"What?"
"It's still in the room." We all looked at each other. Nobody knew what to do.
"Just kidding! It's right here!" She pulled out 2 green dollars and 2 coins out of her pocket.
"Uh... What's wrong?" Nudge questioned, as if nothing ever happened.
"Nothing. Let's go to the Waffle House below, around 1500 yards ahead. I think they're open."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes I feel bad for Waffle House. I mean, they're open all day and night (Even though they're a breakfast joint), and I really feel bad for this one, because six hungry mutant bird kids were walking into it.
We sat down in a booth. Angel Nudge and I shared one side, the boys, the other. Our waitress approached us.
"Hello guys. My name's Farrah. I'll be your waitress for today," She handed out some menus. "What can I get you for drinks?" Fang started.
"I'll get a chocolate milkshake, and a cappuccino please." Farrah scribbled down the order.
"Can I get a glass of OJ and an iced latte?" I asked.
"Sure can. What about you, miss?" She asked Nudge.
"Well, I'll take a hot coffee with three creams and two splendas, a glass of OJ, and some Pink Lemonade please?" Farrah scribbled the orders down.
"Ditto," Gazzy added.
"Excuse me?" Farrah looked up.
"I'll take what she had, but with three splendas in the coffee please."
"You, sir?"
"Iggy..." He looked up at me.
"Yeah, he'll have a Dr. Pepper and a iced tea," Fang answered for him.
"What he said," Iggy chimed. Farrah then nodded, and walked back towards the kitchen.
"She forgot me!" Angel yelled.
"Uhhh... She probably didn't mean to. It's late and she's gt to be really tired. you can have my orange juice if you want,"I said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Okay! Thanks Max!" Angel grinned happily.

I walk into
The Fields of Sorrow
Once again.
Why do I walk there
Almost everyday?
I stroll along the grasses
Thinking
Bearing a horrible pain.
I think of the world around me
And how much they have inspired me.
I start to cry once again.
All my teachers
All my friends,
They have always stood by me,
When things went wrong.
I want a chance to repay them,
To show them that...
Their work was useful.
To show them that
I am truly thankful.
Why do I have to leave them then
Now?
No, now's not a good time.
But I know it was not intended
That I leave them now.
I want to show all those people
That they have been
The change of my life,
That they have made my life so much
Better,
That they were the flames
In the darkness.

Run. It was the only thing going threw Leven,Evie, Matthew and Cameron's mind right now as the dogs and people chased them into the forest. They went as fast as they could as the dogs got closer and closer.
They weren't suppose to be running from the dogs right now. Then again they weren't suppose to be convicted of a crime they didn't do but it had happened.
"Hurry they're gettin' away!" A loud and gruff voice said behind them. The barking got louder. A sharp pain was in Leven's side as she ran. She had taken track at school so she was use to it but it was terrible. She could barely breath as she ran.
Matthew turned his head to look back at the others for a split second and had came in contact with something hard. The thing fell back and Matthew staggered. They all stopped then as the body picked herself up. They looked I to the eyes of a criminal. The most wanted person alive in america. Brig.

I never thought it would be that easy,
Cause we are both so distant now.
And the walls are closing in on us,
And we are wondering how.
No one has a solid answer,
But just walking in the dark,
You can see the look on my face,
It just tears me apart.
When I first met you,
I thought,
How would I get to know this girl well?
Now,
I think,
Why do I have to leave this girl already?
But you and I,
Both of us are walking alone,
In the dark.
Even though you are not with me,
I can feel you with me in my heart.
It just breaks me to think
That you are not with me.
But now,
As I have pondered this situation
For a while now,
I have made a decision.
I am alone.
I am not alone, however, in my heart.
You are with me,
Walking in the dark,
Together.
Cause we are both so distant now.
And the walls are closing in on us,
And we are wondering how.
No one has a solid answer,
But just walking in the dark,
You can see the look on my face,
It just tears me apart.
When I first met you,
I thought,
How would I get to know this girl well?
Now,
I think,
Why do I have to leave this girl already?

I am not alone, however, in my heart.
You are with me,
Walking in the dark,
Together.
Some of you may go through life,
Thinking something,
That is,
Who the hero is in your life.
I am one of those people.
But what I found is that
Even though many people are major influences
On my success in life
Such as my closest friends,
My teachers,
My parents,
Those serving for our country,
Others around me,
Or even my worst enemies.
This year I have found that
The hero that I have
Is no one else
But me.
My hero is myself.
I inspire myself to do everything I do.
I am the light of my life.
Thinking something,
That is,
Who the hero is in your life.
I am one of those people.
But what I found is that
Even though many people are major influences
On my success in life
Such as my closest friends,

This year I have found that
The hero that I have

My hero is myself.
I inspire myself to do everything I do.
I am the light of my life.
I deny the truth,
But really,
That is nothing.
I do that just to protect myself.
I cannot let the truth overcome me
All at once,
I must let it come at me
Pieces by pieces.
The truth is always shocking,
At many times sad.
But I must accept the truth
Even after a while.
Because denying the truth
Is like lying to myself
Denying the truth hurts my soul
But it also protects my soul at the same time.
I don't know what to believe.
It's all too shocking for me.
I deny the truth.
I protect my soul.
I protect myself.
But I also hurt myself.
But really,
That is nothing.
I do that just to protect myself.
I cannot let the truth overcome me
All at once,
I must let it come at me
Pieces by pieces.
The truth is always shocking,
At many times sad.
But I must accept the truth

Denying the truth hurts my soul
But it also protects my soul at the same time.
I don't know what to believe.
It's all too shocking for me.
I deny the truth.
I protect my soul.
I protect myself.
But I also hurt myself.
Why,
Is everyone being so cruel
Everyone is abusing each other
It seems like there is no good at all
In this world.
Why is everyone
Leaving me out of everything
Like I am this puppet with no string
I feel out of place,
And I am sure other people feel the same
I have searched for all these years
Someone special
Who would lead me through
The darkness
And all of my troubles would fade away.
Someone that would be named,
"My Hero."
I found who she was this year
And it was extremely unexpected,
Because...
No one else is my hero.
My hero is myself.
Is everyone being so cruel
Everyone is abusing each other
It seems like there is no good at all
In this world.
Why is everyone
Leaving me out of everything
Like I am this puppet with no string
