Chapter 12
The late afternoon sun shined on Koda’s back as he headed further west. Soon the sun would be shining in front of him, slowly drifting its way down the western horizon. Night would follow…
The hospital grew quiet as the hours went by. Jax’s pain had subsided but his anger and vengeance did not. With each passing minute he grew more restless and ready to leave his hospital bed.
He gently took the oxygen tubes out of his nose then gritted his teeth as he pulled the IV out his hand. Slowly, he moved his feet towards the edge of the bed but quickly pushed them back as he saw a nurse walk by but the nurse kept going not even glancing inside his room. His legs felt weak trying to hold his weight but he pushed himself to walk. He looked around the room for his clothes, wondered where they kept patients clothes. On the other side of the room were floor to ceiling cabinets with drawers. As he thought his clothes were in the middle drawer neatly folded and as he took them out he noticed they had been washed.
The hospital seemed quiet and empty now but he still felt self-conscious about changing out of his gown …he stepped inside the bathroom to change.
He knew sneaking out of a hospital as a patient wasn’t going to be easy if at all possible. Just walking out the front door was out of the question, he was going to have to sneak out the harder way…and more dangerous.
There was a large window in his room that could be opened and it seemed large enough for him to crawl through but getting to the ground was the dangerous part.
As he looked out the height from the ground to his window appeared to be 15 feet. Jumpable but breaking his ankles was also in the forecast. Luckily there was grass instead of a parking lot with cars. He unlocked the window and tried to push it up but it didn’t want to budge. Apparently this window had never been opened and to the looks of the place it was probably years. He pushed harder making the muscles in his hands and shoulders burn. A sharp pain shot through his right hand as he yelped in pain. He quickly looked behind him to see if he drew any attention to himself.
The halls were still empty.
A bit frustrated with the window, he observed it trying to see what was causing it not to move. He checked the locks and they were indeed unlocked but the window didn’t seem dirty or caked with dirt to keep it stuck. Until he saw two little plastic knobs on top of the window tracks, designed to keep the window shut.
Obviously to keep suicidal…and vengeful patients…from jumping out windows.
He was going to have to sneak out the hard way.
The 24-hr diner Koda decided to stop at was filled with truckers, rednecks, and late-night travelers going to or leaving from Las Vegas most likely. Cigarette smoke slithered through the air with a TV blaring game scores from earlier in the day making it seem more like a sports bar than a diner.
From a booth ahead of him a young attractive brunette woman caught his eye. She was clearly into him.
Koda gave her mischievous but with a hint of danger smile.
You don’t wanna know me girl.
Clearly his look worked as she shifted from flirty to nervous and broke eye contact with him.
“Did ya want anything?”
Koda looked up to see a red haired, twenty something and very scrawny guy. His voice was high but gravely like he was just starting puberty. Not the type you’d see working as a waiter in a diner on the side of the highway.
“I was expecting some blonde fat chick with too much makeup and call me ‘doll’,” he said with one eyebrow cocked.
The scrawny waiter looked down looking embarrassed.
“Ha, yeah well what can ya do when you need a job in a squeak of a town on the map? So do you want anything or just came in here to sit?”
The guy obviously had an attitude; apparently from years of bullying he’s probably received his whole life.
Koda put his hands up in defense, “Alright, alright…just give me a burger with cheese and pickle.”
“No drink with that?”
“Just get me what everybody gets.”
“No problem,” the waiter said leaving his booth.
He felt eyes on him from somewhere. Thinking it was that brunette again he looked in front of him ready to give her his evil look again but she was nowhere to be found. Bewildered but still feeling like he was being watched he looked further around ahead of him and finally caught who was looking at him.
A redneck with a straw cowboy hat sitting at one of the bar stools far in the back was giving him a look-to-fight stare. He was one of those idiots that thought they were tough and did nothing but sit around looking for any tough guy to pick a fight with.
Koda stared him in the eye, hoping to spook him.
You don’t wanna mess with me either buddy.
It wasn’t working, he was still staring.
“Here ya go burger with cheese and pickle.”
“That was quick.”
“How long does it take to cook a frozen burger?”
Koda was starting to hate this guy’s attitude
Then a cup of coffee appeared next to his burger.
“You bring me coffee?”
“You said to get you what everybody gets, so there ya go.”
“People eat burgers with coffee in this town?” He said staring up at the guy.
“We’re pretty stupid around here,” the waiter replied walking away.
“Obviously,” Koda muttered to himself.
His burger looked unappetizing. It was clearly a frozen burger and the cheese wasn’t even melted, just a slice of American cheese slapped on.
He took the top bun and peeled the cheese off. The pickle was a little chip from the bottom of the jar that apparently didn’t have any pickle juice in it as the chip was shriveled and dry.
I’ll just eat meat and bread instead.
He took a bite, the bread was dry as well but it was better than nothing.
He looked up to see the same redneck still eyeing him from the back.
You’re more stupid than you look, Koda thought as finished his meat & bread burger in 3 bites.
He ignored the cup of black ink looking coffee and got up to leave. He was able to sneak out of the door unnoticed, no payment for this diner dump.
Walking towards his bike he sensed someone behind him. Koda smiled to himself knowing just who was behind him.
“You really are stupid,” he laughed swinging his arm around ready to grab this idiot’s neck and snap it. But his strength left him when he saw who it was instead.
“What no payment?”
It was the waiter with the attitude but it was his appearance that caught Koda off guard.
His eyes were black like a never ending pit and his mouth was filled with tiny but sharp as needles teeth.
He acquired a strength Koda didn’t think he could even possess as the waiter grabbed Koda’s arm and threw him into his bike. Koda quickly recovered and charged for the demon waiter.
“You’re still a scrawny idiot,” he said as claws exploded from his fingers and ripped through the guy’s throat, spraying blood over the ground and down his body as he dropped to the ground.
Not exactly sure of what just happened but it was still day time and he knew there was going to be people coming out to see the ruckus and he didn’t want to be part of it. Picking up his bike from the ground and quickly checked for any scratches. There were three on the gas tank; Koda looked darkly at the waiter’s body on the ground with blood still spilling from his neck wound.
“Thanks,” he growled.
He revved the engine and drove back onto the highway heading further West.
Back at the diner, the redneck stood by the dead demon waiter, smiling wickedly into the distance.

Jaycee's POV
I lay there besides Liana, she is sleeping, I rest my hand on her soft delicate face, she stirrs in her sleep. Her eyes flutter open and she gaze's at me.
"Mmmmm, Mommy wh-where are we?" She asks. "Texas" I reply. She looks around, blood is spattered everywhere no is around except the dead boddies. She screams stands up and starts to panic. "Li, Li Calm down!" I say calmly. "Wha-What happened!!!" I sighed, I couldnt belive she cant remember. "Were isolated in a tiny town in texas remember?????" I asked. She paused thought for a minute and shook her head.
