A week later in the cafeteria, at lunchtime I sat by Dib. Dib and Zim were glaring at each other again.
“Ugh, he bugs me like crazy! Can’t he just go back to his own stupid alien scum home of a planet!?” Dib commented.
Zim threw his uneaten lunch away as he stood up with anger in his eyes.
“Uh, oh, this can’t be good,” I said. “This cannot be good at all.”
Zim walked to our table. Dib left his lunch on the table and stood up to face him.
“Dib! I’m tired of you! Go back to the planet YOU came from.” Zim yelled as I shook my head. He snatched Dib’s glasses off his face and dropped them on the floor out of Dib’s reaching hands. Zim then threw Poop Cola Juice, the one part of his lunch he didn’t throw away, into Dib’s face.
Dib fell to his knees, blinded from the juice and lack of glasses to search for the fallen spectacles. Zim yelled to the cafeteria, “Hey everybody, look, an alien!” He pointed to Dib. Dib’s eyes filled with tears of frustration.
The cafeteria burst into laughter. I had to laugh at least a little with them. It really was kinda funny, after all. Afterwards, though, I picked up Dib’s glasses, guided him to his feet, and gave them to him. Once he got them on, he gave me a deep glare and walked away. I was stunned that he would do that after I helped him get his glasses. It was just a little laugh!
After skool, when I got home, I immediately got a message from Dib. I opened it, even though I really didn’t want to talk to him after what happened in the cafeteria. What he said when I answered shocked me even more, though.
“I HATE ZIM!” Dib shouted at me, “I hate all Irkens! I hate all aliens! I hate everybody in the cafeteria! Especially you, Del! I hate you! You’re the worst! You…”
I closed the message and turned off the screen before I could hear anymore and I felt hurt and pain of the things he said. Tears filled my eyes, and I started to cry. I ran up to the first level of the base, bawling.
“Is something wrong?” Skoodge asked.
“NO!” I yelled than stomped to my room and slammed the door. I buried my face in my pillow, and cried for the rest of the afternoon.
